State Road 442 (Florida)
State Road 442 (SR 442) is a short east–west route in Volusia County connecting U.S. Route 1 (US 1) in Edgewater with Interstate 95 (I-95) at exit 244. The road is named Indian River Boulevard. Route description West of I-95, the paved road begins as the unsigned County Road 442 (CR 442) providing access to rural ranches. The divided highway runs for about before transitioning to SR 442 just west of the I-95 interchange. After the interchange, Indian River Boulevard continues east-northwest as a divided highway passing under a pedestrian bridge for the East Central Regional Rail Trail and intersecting Old Mission Road (CR 4137). After spending its first in a more rural section of the city, the two roadway carriages come together and pass through a residential neighborhood of Edgewater. East Coast Regional Rail Trail is a planned 52-mile paved multi-use trail in Volusia County, Florida and Brevard County, Florida connecting from Enterprise, Florida to Edgewater, Florida with a 10-mile leg to Titusville, Florida. From the trailhead at Green Springs Park, other trailheads are at Osteen, Maytown, Edgewater and Titusville. The State Highway System of the U.S. state of Florida comprises the roads maintained by the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) or a toll authority. The components are referred to officially as state roads, abbreviated as SR. History Prior to the 1945 renumbering, State Roads were given numbers in the order they were added to the system. The 1945 renumbering removed many roads that were never built and added some that had not existed prior to 1945. In 1955, the State Road Department (SRD) slowed the addition of new state roads and began to classify roads into primary, secondary, and local roads.
