State Highway 59 (SH 59) is a state highway that runs from Jacksboro to St. Jo in Texas. History The original SH 59 was designated on August 21, 1923, between Palacios and Midfield, replacing SH 19B. On April 26, 1926, the highway was extended to the military camp west of Palacios. On November 15, 1927, the route was extended south to Tivoli (though this section was originally designated but unnumbered on October 10, 1927). On February 22, 1928, the route was extended south to Rockport, replacing part of SH 113. Jacksboro, Texas
Jacksboro is a city in Jack County, Texas, in the United States. Its population was 4,511 at the 2010 census. U.S. Highways 281 and 380, and Texas State Highways 114 and 199 intersect at Jacksboro, which is the county seat of Jack County. History Jacksboro was first settled in the 1850s, with newcomers attracted by land offers from the Texas Emigration and Land Office. Originally called "Mesquiteville", the community grew up along the banks of Lost Creek and spread out over the pastureland between Lost Creek and the waters of the West Fork of Keechi Creek. It was renamed "Jacksboro" in 1858, when it became the county seat, in honor of brothers William and Patrick Jack, veterans of the Texas Revolution. Regular postal service began in 1859. Jacksboro was located on one route of the Butterfield Overland Mail. The county was one of the few in Texas to vote against secession before the Civil War. State Highway 58 (SH 58) was a state highway in the U.S. state of Texas maintained by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT). The highway was located within the city of Midland in Midland County. The route began at I-20 in south Midland and follows Cotton Flat Rd. and S. Garfield St.) to Spur 268 and Bus. SH 158 in central Midland and intersected BL I-20 in central Midland. The route was designated in 2009, and completed by 2011.
