Route description SH 51 begins at Texas State Highway 207, SH 207 southeast of Spearman and travels east through unincorporated Hansford County approximately . It is a two-lane route for its entire length, and has no intersections with other state-maintained routes until its terminus at Farm to Market Road 281, FM 281, which continues to the east and south, and Farm to Market Road 760, FM 760, which travels north to Spearman. History The original SH 51 was designated on August 21, 1923, as a route from Sagerton, Texas, Sagerton to Crowell, Texas, Crowell, replacing a portion of Texas State Highway 28, SH 28. The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT ) is a government agency in the American state of Texas. Though the public face of the agency is generally associated with the construction and maintenance of the state's immense state highway system, the agency is also responsible for overseeing aviation, rail, and public transportation systems in the state.
