State Highway 103 (Texas)
State Highway 103 (SH 103) is a state highway that runs through east Texas from an intersection with SH 7 near the Neches River through Lufkin to an intersection with SH 21 near the Louisiana state border. The route was originally designated in 1926. Route description SH 103 begins at an intersection with SH 7 just east of the Neches River. It then travels generally eastward to the western outskirts of Lufkin. The route then briefly travels northeast along State Loop 287 and US Route 69 before entering Lufkin coinciding with the business route of US 69. At Atkinson Drive, it turns east and proceeds out of town. It crosses two arms of Lake Sam Rayburn before reaching its eastern terminus at SH 21 just west of Milam, and 10 miles from the Louisiana border. The entire route covers 63.05 miles. Texas 7
The Texas 7 were a group of prisoners who escaped from the John B. Connally Unit near Kenedy, Texas, on December 13, 2000. Six of the seven were apprehended over a month later, between January 21–23, 2001, as a direct result of the television show '' America's Most Wanted''. The seventh committed suicide before he could be arrested. The six surviving members were all convicted and sentenced to death for the murder of Irving, Texas police officer Aubrey Wright Hawkins, who was shot and killed when responding to a robbery perpetrated by the Texas Seven. Texas State Highway 104
State Highway 104 (SH 104) is a proposed state highway which will run from Farm to Market Road 106 (FM 106) and Park Road 100 (PR 100) in South Padre Island. History Former routes A previous route numbered SH 104 was designated on May 25, 1925, as a connector route from Ranger to Morton Valley. On March 28, 1927, this was renumbered to SH 103, as old SH 103 was conditional. Instead, SH 101, a connector route from Georgetown east to SH 95 at Circleville, was renumbered to SH 104 to avoid duplication with another SH 101. On May 28, 1932, the route was extended west to reach Liberty Hill, and it was completed by 1936. The highway was transferred to SH 29 on August 22, 1951, when it was extended after being supplanted by US Highway 183 on May 23, 1951. SH 1 State Highway 1 ran from El Paso through Dallas to Texarkana. It was the first highway designated in 1917. In 1926, the United States Highway System was designated, with US 80 colocated from El Paso to Dallas and US 67 from Dallas to Texarkana. Ratcliff, Texas
Ratcliff is an unincorporated community in Houston County, Texas, in East Texas, United States. According to the Handbook of Texas, the community had a population of 106 in 2000. History When a Georgia wagon train brought a group of immigrants into eastern Houston County around 1875, Ratcliff was established. It was given that name in honor of Jesse H. Ratcliff, who on February 6, 1889, erected a post office and built a sawmill in a region of virgin pines. The massive sawmilling enterprise known as Four C Mill was built on the foundation of Ratcliff's sawmill, which was sold to Central Coal and Coke Company in 1901.
