State Employees Credit Union of Maryland (also known as SECU of Maryland or SECU Maryland or SECU MD) is a state-chartered credit union headquartered in Linthicum, Maryland. It is the largest non-profit credit union and it is regulated; under the authority of ''The Office of the Commissioner of Financial Regulation'', State of Maryland. History SECU Maryland began its operation in the year 1951 with the then-Governor Theodore McKeldin as its first member. In the spring of 1953, it opened its first office. Towson Center is Towson University's 5,250-seat multi-purpose arena, in Towson, Maryland. The arena opened in 1976. It was home to the Towson Tigers Men's and Women's basketball teams, the Volleyball team, and the Gymnastics team from 1976 to 2013. On 16 October 1979 Towson Center hosted a concert by the rock'n'roll band AC/DC as part of its 'Highway to Hell' US tour with an attendance of 4,175. In January 2011, it was formally announced that Towson Center would undergo a comprehensive renovation as part of the development of the new SECU Arena, which opened in 2013. SECU Arena
SECU Arena is a 5,200-seat multi-purpose arena on the Towson University campus in Towson, Maryland. The arena was completed and opened in 2013, and now hosts the men's and women's basketball teams, as well as the volleyball and gymnastics teams. It replaced the Towson Center, which had been in use since 1976. The arena has 340 club seats, four private suites and 104 court side seats. Upon opening, the arena was awarded LEED Gold certification for energy use, lighting, water and material use, and other sustainable features. In addition to being the home of several Towson sports teams, the arena also serves several other functions. Theodore Roosevelt McKeldin (November 20, 1900August 10, 1974) was an American politician. He was a member of the Republican Party, served as mayor of Baltimore twice, from 1943 to 1947 and again from 1963 to 1967. McKeldin was the 53rd Governor of Maryland from 1951 to 1959. Early life McKeldin was born in Baltimore. His father had worked as a stonecutter and later was a Baltimore City police officer. He had 10 other siblings.
