Start Nizhny Novgorod
Start () is a professional bandy club from Nizhny Novgorod, Russia, established in 1932. It plays in the Russian Bandy Super League, the top division of Russian bandy. Start was founded in 1932 as a team called Novoye Sormovo. The name was changed to Zenit (Zenith) in 1936, Trud (Labor) in 1959 and ultimately Start Gorky in 1960. When the city of Gorky changed its names to Nizhny Novgorod in 1990, the club changed names accordingly. It played in the elite division of the Soviet bandy championship in 1967–1969, the 1973–74 season and permanently since the 1975–76 season. History The club was founded in 1932 and is the oldest sports club in Nizhny Novgorod. The current name is from the 1960/61 season. The Russian Bandy Super League (russian: Чемпионат России по хоккею с мячом — Суперлига), is a men's professional bandy league in Russia, the top division of Russian bandy. There is no definite rule which teams will be relegated or promoted. Besides results on the ice, financial resources and infrastructure also play a part in the decisions. For example, the 2016–17 Russian Bandy Super League contained twelve teams. The 2017-18 season was to have fourteen. Stroitel won the Supreme League final tournament in 2017 and got promoted, while Zorky finished third in its group and did not even qualify for the final tournament. Still Zorky also got promoted. Master of Sports of Russia (MS) (russian: Мастер спорта России (МС)) is a sports honorary title in the Russian Federation and a direct successor to the similar Soviet classification system. To assign the title of MS prerequisite is to participate in the competition judged at least 3 judges of the All-Russia and international category and receive necessary amount of scores or take a certain place among other athletes.
