Starr Arena
J. Howard Starr Rink is a 2,000-seat arena in Hamilton, New York. It opened in 1959 and was the home of the Colgate Raiders men's and women's ice hockey teams until 2016. The arena was dedicated in honor of former head coach John Howard Starr on December 11, 1959. The hockey arena was built as the southern half of the William A. Reid Athletic Center, a twin barrel-vaulted complex which also houses Cotterell Court. The complex is located on the western side of campus next to Andy Kerr Stadium and across Broad Street from Huntington Gymnasium, the school's former athletics facility. Prior to its completion, all Colgate home games were played on open-air surfaces and the lack of available ice caused the men's program to be shuttered from 1951 through 1957. Starr Records
Starr Records was a record label founded by the Starr Piano Company of Richmond, Indiana. Gennett Records was also owned by Starr Piano. Starr's first discs were vertical-cut records in the mid 1910s based on Edison Records standard found in the Edison Disc Record. They were discontinued in 1917. The Starr label was continued through much of the 1920s in Canada, pressed and distributed by Compo Company Ltd., mostly issuing sides that were released in the U.S. on Gennett. An unrelated Starr Records made records in Australia which were sold in the Coles chain. A Starr revolver (Starr DA) is a double-action revolver which was used in the western theater of the American Civil War until the United States Army Ordnance Department persuaded the Starr Arms Co. to create a single-action variant after discontinuation of the Colt. Starr Carbine
The Starr carbine was a breechloading single-shot rifle used by the United States Army. Designed in 1858, the Starr was primarily used by cavalry soldiers in the American Civil War. History In January 1858, Ebenzer Starr submitted his design for a single-shot, breech-loading rifle to the Washington Armory for evaluation. During testing, the rifle was noted to have no misfires, and its accuracy was considered better than average. Testers commented that if the gas seal could be improved, the weapon would be better than its rival, the Sharps carbine. The rifle was adopted as the Model 1858 carbine. Between 1861 and 1864, over 20,000 were produced by the Starr Arms Company of Yonkers, New York. The Model 1858 was designed to fire paper or linen cartridges.
