Starling (software)
Starling is a messaging server that enables reliable distributed queuing with a minimal overhead. The code for Starling was originally developed inside social media firm Twitter and released as open source in 2008. The program was originally developed by Blaine Cook, now the former lead developer for Twitter. It speaks the Memcached protocol for maximum cross-platform compatibility. Any language that speaks Memcached can take advantage of Starling’s queue facilities. Blaine Cook (programmer)
Blaine Cook (born December 19, 1980) is a Canadian software engineer, now living and working in Nelson, British Columbia. Career Cook is the principal co-author of the OAuth and WebFinger specifications. He is the former lead developer of social networking site Twitter. He has also worked for Yahoo! on the Fire Eagle project and for BT Group as part of their open source Osmosoft team. He was founder of collaborative text editing startup Poetica. Poetica was acquired by Condé Nast in March 2016 and Cook remained with the company as a staff engineer. Ruby is an interpreted, high-level, general-purpose programming language which supports multiple programming paradigms. It was designed with an emphasis on programming productivity and simplicity. Memcached
Memcached (pronounced variously ''mem-cash-dee'' or ''mem-cashed'') is a general-purpose distributed memory caching, memory-caching system. It is often used to speed up dynamic database-driven websites by caching data and Object (computer science), objects in Random-access memory, RAM to reduce the number of times an external data source (such as a database or API) must be read. Memcached is free and open-source software, licensed under the Revised BSD license. Memcached runs on Unix-like operating systems (Linux and macOS) and on Microsoft Windows.
