The Starkville-Oktibbeha County Public Library System is a public library system serving Oktibbeha County, Mississippi. The library consists of three branches with the headquarters library, the Starkville Public Library, located in Starkville, Mississippi. The library is part of the Mississippi Library Partnership, which is a consortium of public libraries in Mississippi which share their resources and catalog as a way to increase the amount of books available for their residents. Oktibbeha County is a county in the east central portion of the U.S. state of Mississippi. As of the 2020 census the population was 51,788. The county seat is Starkville. The county's name is derived from a local Native American word meaning either "bloody water" or "icy creek". The Choctaw had long occupied much of this territory prior to European exploration and United States acquisition. Mississippi State University, a public research university and land-grant institution, is in Oktibbeha County. Oktibbeha County is conterminous with the Starkville, MS Micropolitian Statistical Area. Starkville is a city in, and the county seat of, Oktibbeha County, Mississippi, United States. SirsiDynix is a United States company which produces integrated library system (ILS) software and associated services for libraries. Origins The Sirsi Corporation was founded in Huntsville, Alabama in 1979 by Mike Murdock, Jacky Young, and Jim Young. The Unicorn library automation system they developed was first installed at Georgia Tech. Sirsi acquired Data Research Associates (DRA) for $51.5 million in 2001. The Dynix Corporation was founded in 1983. Their major product was the Dynix Automated Library System. In January 1992, Dynix Systems was acquired by Ameritech. Dynix and NOTIS Systems (maker of NOTIS), which Ameritech purchased in October 1991, were consolidated into Ameritech Library Services (ALS) in 1994. Maben is a town in Oktibbeha and Webster counties, Mississippi. The population was 871 at the 2010 census. Pioneer aviator, Charles Lindbergh spent two weeks in Maben making repairs to his Jenny airplane and taking locals up for rides at five dollars each during May 1923. Sturgis annually hosts "The Rally", an all-bike motorcycle rally, also known as the Little Sturgis Rally.
