Star Valley Wyoming Temple
The Star Valley Wyoming Temple is a Temple (LDS Church), temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Star Valley, Wyoming. The temple was opened in 2016. The intent to build the temple was announced by President of the Church (LDS Church), church president Thomas S. Monson on October 1, 2011. The temple was announced concurrently with the Barranquilla Colombia Temple, Barranquilla Colombia, Durban South Africa Temple, Durban South Africa, Kinshasa Democratic Republic of the Congo Temple, Kinshasa Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Provo City Center Temple, Provo City Center temples. When announced, the total number of temples worldwide increased to 166. When dedicated in 2016, it became the 154th temple of the church in operation. This is the first temple in Wyoming. Star Valley
Star Valley is located in the United States between the Salt River Range in western Wyoming and the Webster Range of eastern Idaho. The altitude of the valley ranges from to . Three major Wyoming rivers, the Salt River, the Greys River and the Snake River meet near Alpine Junction at Palisades Reservoir. Numerous towns are located in the valley, including Afton, Thayne, Bedford, Etna, Smoot, Fairview, Osmond, Freedom, Grover, Auburn, Alpine, Nordic, Turnerville and Star Valley Ranch. In the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church), a temple is a building dedicated to be a House of the Lord. Temples are considered by church members to be the most sacred structures on earth. Upon completion, temples are usually open to the public for a short period of time (an "open house"). During the open house, the church conducts tours of the temple with missionaries and members from the local area serving as tour guides, and all rooms of the temple are open to the public. The temple is then dedicated as a "House of the Lord", after which only members who are deemed worthy are permitted entrance. Temples are not churches or meetinghouses designated for public weekly worship services, but rather are places of worship open only to the faithful where certain rites of the church must be performed. Lincoln County is a county in the U.S. state of Wyoming. As of the 2020 United States Census, the population was 19,581. Its county seat is Kemmerer. Its western border abuts the eastern borders of the states of Idaho and Utah. History Lincoln County was created February 21, 1911, with land detached from Uinta County.
