''Star Trek: Music from the Motion Picture'' is a soundtrack album for the 2009 film ''Star Trek'', composed by Michael Giacchino. The score was recorded in October 2008 since the film was originally scheduled to be released the following December. It was performed by the Hollywood Studio Symphony and Page LA Studio Voices at the Sony Scoring Stage in Culver City, California. The score incorporates the " Theme from ''Star Trek''" by Alexander Courage and Gene Roddenberry. Track listing ''The Deluxe Edition'' In 2010, Varèse Sarabande released a greatly expanded 5000-copy limited edition album of the score entitled ''Star Trek: The Deluxe Edition''. Now out of print, the album features many previously unreleased cues, including ones for the fight on the drill and Spock's attempt to save his mother. Michael Giacchino
Michael Giacchino (; born October 10, 1967) is an American composer of music for films, television and video games. He has also served as a director for television. He has received many awards, including an Oscar for his work on '' Up'' (2009), an Emmy for his work on ''Lost'' (2004), and three Grammys for his work on ''Ratatouille'' (2007) and '' Up (2009)''. Giacchino is known for his collaborations with directors J. J. Abrams, Brad Bird, Matt Reeves, Pete Docter, Colin Trevorrow, Jon Watts, Drew Goddard, The Wachowskis, Taika Waititi, and Thomas Bezucha. The "Theme from ''Star Trek''" (originally scored under the title "Where No Man Has Gone Before") is an instrumental musical piece composed by Alexander Courage for ''Star Trek,'' the science fiction television series created by Gene Roddenberry and originally aired between September 8, 1966, and June 3, 1969. History The music was played over both the opening and closing credits of the original series. The opening credits begin with the now-famous "where no man has gone before" monologue recited by series star William Shatner, accompanied by an opening fanfare. The main theme begins, punctuated at several points by the ''Enterprise'' flying toward and past the camera with a "whoosh" sound for dramatic effect, created vocally by Courage himself. Vulcans, sometimes referred to as Vulcanians, are a fictional extraterrestrial humanoid species in the ''Star Trek'' universe and media franchise. Dr. Leonard H. McCoy, known as "Bones", is a character in the American science-fiction franchise ''Star Trek''.
