Star Search (Singaporean TV Series)
''Star Search'' () is a television show from 1988 to 2019 organised by MediaCorp to scout for Chinese language-speaking acting talent. History Star Search started out as a Singapore local talent show, restricted to residents of Singapore. After the Singapore Broadcasting Corporation discontinued its drama training courses in the early 1990s, Star Search became one of Channel 8's main sources to scout for talent. In 1999, the show expanded to include regions such as Malaysia, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Guangzhou (China). From 1999 to 2003, the show took the format of a knockout competition where the male and female champions and first runners-up from each country will go to Singapore compete for the overall champion prize in their respective genders. Back after a four-year hiatus and into its 9th installment, Star Search 2007 marks the return of the mother of talent search programs in Singapore. MediaCorp Channel 8
Channel 8 ( zh, 8頻道) is a Singaporean free-to-air television channel, airing in Mandarin Chinese. It was created by Television Singapura on 31 August 1963 with experimental broadcasts, before going official on 23 November that year. The channel's logo is a yellow number 8 on top of a red disc. History Channel 8 began its test transmissions on Saturday, 31 August 1963, Malaysia's national day. Its first day consisted of a Hokkien film, repeats of India's participation in the South East Asian Cultural Festival and Singapore Celebrates. Lina Ng
Lina Ng Su Fang (; born 6 May 1974) is a Singaporean actress and host. She was a full-time Mediacorp and SPH MediaWorks artiste from 1993 to 2004 but currently continues to film on an ad-hoc basis. One of the most acclaimed actresses in Singapore, Ng is the first and only actress to win an Asian Academy Creative Award and aAsian Television Awardin Singapore. Zhang Yao Dong
Zhang Yaodong (, born Teoh Yeow Tong on 17 December 1977) is a Malaysian actor based in Singapore. Career Zhang entered the entertainment industry after finishing first runner-up in the Malaysian edition of talent-search contest Star Search in 2001. Gary Yap
Gary Yap (; Pha̍k-fa-sṳ: ''Ya̍p Tsun-tshìm''; born 15 January 1977) is a Malaysian television personality and a host on Star Search talent quest. Career Gary Yap was schoolmates with fellow Star Search contestant and actor Zhang Yaodong. Yap went to Singapore in 2001 to pioneer his career as an interpreter. He represented Malaysia while participating in the finals of "Star Search", a television program hosted by the New Media Results Malaysia Male Champions' Trophy. Afterward, he stayed on board with new media as a drama series actor and presenter and is now host of 8TV's entertainment program 8 E-News. Alan Tern
Alan Tern Yoke Cher (, born 31 March 1976) is a Singaporean actor. He was a full-time Mediacorp artiste from 2001 to 2011. Career Tern was a finalist in the 2001 Star Search Singapore, and he joined MediaCorp after the competition. Qi Yuwu
Qi Yuwu (; born 28 November 1976) is a Chinese actor based in Singapore. He is a permanent resident of Singapore and a contracted artiste under Beijing Enlight Media Group.
