The Star Awards (Chinese: 红星大奖) are awards for artistic and technical merit in the media organisation Mediacorp of Singapore where Mediacorp recognises entertainers under their employment for outstanding performances of the year. The awards are given annually in a ceremony. The various category winners are awarded a trophy, with initial designs featuring various star shapes. The star was subsequently removed and the trophy is designed as a S shaped column, depicting the star. History The 1st Star Awards presentation was held on 26 February 1994, took place at the Caldecott Broadcast Centre, MediaCorp TV Theatre with an audience of about 500 people. There have no other pre-show and post-awards ceremony held in that year. Bryan Wong Lok Kiang (, born on 30 January 1971) is a Singaporean television host and actor. Career Wong began his career as a child actor in 1981 and featured in several popular children's programmes on SBC. He began performing modelling assignments and commercials while still a teenager. In 1994, he joined TCS as a full-time artiste after a short stint as an interior designer. Although his first hosting role was for the teenage lifestyle programme ''Gen Y'', it was the infotainment programme ''City Beat'' during the late 1990s that first exposed him to television audiences. The category was introduced in 2011, at the 17th Star Awards ceremony. It was given in honour of variety show partners that was deemed the most popular among the television audience. The nominees were determined by a team of judges employed by MediaCorp; winners were selected by a majority vote from the public via online voting. Chen Biyu , Dennis Chew , Marcus Chin & Mark Lee are the recent winners in this category for their performance in ''Yujian Huangchong (Weekend Edition)''. Michelle Chong and Quan were nominated twice, more than any other host. Chong also holds the record for the most nominations without a win. Star Awards 2012 (Chinese: 红星大奖 2012) was a double television award ceremony held in Singapore. It is part of the annual Star Awards organised by MediaCorp for the two free-to-air channels, MediaCorp Channel 8 and MediaCorp Channel U. ''Star Awards 2012'' was live broadcast on Channel 8, on 22 and 29 April 2012, and the Post-Show party on Channel U after the broadcast of the second award ceremony. Star Awards 2013 (Chinese: 红星大奖 2013) was a double television award ceremony held in Singapore. It is part of the annual Star Awards organised by MediaCorp for the two free-to-air channels, MediaCorp Channel 8 and MediaCorp Channel U. Star Awards 2013 was broadcast live on Channel 8, on 21 April 2013 and 28 April 2013. The first ceremony was held at the MediaCorp TV Theatre while the second ceremony was held at the Marina Bay Sands. The ceremonies were also broadcast on 8 International and the second ceremony on Astro AEC & Astro Quan Jia HD for the first time in HD. As with the previous three years, viewers were able to catch the presentation of the Professional awards (given out to backstage crew and scriptwriters) on Channel 8.
