Star, Texas
Star is an unincorporated community in Mills County in Central Texas, United States. According to the Handbook of Texas, the community had an estimated population of 85 in 2000. Geography Star is located at the junction of U.S. Highway 84 and FM 1047 and North Simms Creek in east-central Mills County, east of Goldthwaite and west of Evant. It is located near the Hamilton County line. Climate The climate in this area is characterized by relatively high temperatures and evenly distributed precipitation throughout the year. The Köppen Climate System describes the weather as humid subtropical, and uses the abbreviation ''Cfa''. History The community was laid out by Alec Street in the mid-1880s and was named for nearby Star Mountain. Street ran a store and a gin in the community. Humid Subtropical Climate
A humid subtropical climate is a zone of climate characterized by hot and humid summers, and cool to mild winters. Star High School or Star School is a 1A public high school located in Star, Texas, United States. It is part of the Star Independent School District located in east central Mills County. The school has all grades (K-12) in one building with students attending from portions of Hamilton and Lampasas counties along with Star. Star Independent School District
Star Independent School District was a public school district based in the community of Star, Texas, USA. Located in Mills County, the district extended into portions of Hamilton and Lampasas counties. It was about west of Waco. Star ISD had one school that served students in grades kindergarten through twelve. History The Center City, Hurst Ranch, McGirk, Moline, Payne Gap, Plainview, and Pleasant Grove schools consolidated into Star City in the period 1930 through 1938. Beginning circa 2006 the district experienced a decline in enrollment and funding. In 2013 the district had 56 students; the State of Texas reduces funding if a school district's enrollment is fewer than 90 students. That year the district's closure was announced. The final superintendent, Barbara Marchbanks, stated that parents leaving the area to find other jobs caused enrollment to decline. In the United States, the Great Depression began with the Wall Street Crash of October 1929 and then spread worldwide. The nadir came in 1931–1933, and recovery came in 1940.
