Billy Stanlake
Billy James Stanlake (born 4 November 1994) is an Australian cricketer. He is a fast bowler who represented Australia in the 2014 Under-19 Cricket World Cup and played One Day International and Twenty20 International cricket for the full national side. He plays domestic cricket for the Tasmania cricket team and the Hobart Hurricanes in the Big Bash League. Stanlake is the tallest person to ever represent Australia in international cricket, standing at 204 cm. Early life Stanlake was born in Hervey Bay, Queensland and spent the first six years of his life on the Fraser Coast. There, he and his brother played Australian rules football for the Hervey Bay Bombers, encouraged to do so by their father Warren Stanlake who played for the Footscray Football Club in the professional Victorian Football League. William Stanlake
William Stanlake VC DCM (31 October 1830 – 24 April 1904) was an English recipient of the Victoria Cross, the highest and most prestigious award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth forces. He was 23 years old, and he was a private in the Coldstream Guards of the British Army during the Crimean War when the following deed took place for which he was awarded the VC. On 26 October 1854 near Inkerman, Crimea, Private Stanlake, when employed as a sharpshooter, volunteered to reconnoitre, and although he was warned of the dangers he would encounter, crawled to within six yards of a Russian sentry and brought back such information that the officer in charge of the party was able to make a surprise attack. He is buried in Camberwell Old Cemetery in South East London. Claude Stanlake
Claude Alexander Stanlake (12 October 1882 – 19 August 1960) was an Australian rules footballer who played with St Kilda in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Recruited from Victorian Football Association (VFA) club Preston Football Club juniors, Stanlake made his senior VFL debut in Round 12 1902 against Collingwood Football Club at Victoria Park, and played six games in his debut season. He played a further twelve games in 1903. After living in Brunswick, in 1915 Stanlake moved to the Northern Territory to gain work and was a leading player in the early seasons of the Northern Territory Football League (NTFL).Lee & Barfoot, p. 4.
