Standish Hall, at 718-820 US 395 E. in Standish, California, was built in 1907. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2005. Standish Hall
Standish Hall was an estate and country house, built in 1573, owned by the Standish family in the south-west of Standish, Wigan. No standing structures of the hall remain on the former estate, however, some of its wooden-panel interiors are preserved elsewhere. History The original building was a wattle and daub H-shaped building constructed in 1574. In 1684 a wing built of brick was added to the north, and during the same period, many alterations were made to the original house. In 1748 another three-story brick wing was added to the west. Around 1780 the moat, which till then surrounded the hall, was filled up with earth. A final extension further west was added in 1822. By the late-19th-century it stood in extensive parkland with forests, grasslands and large fishponds. The hall and its Roman Catholic chapel were at the centre of the estate, which had a series of interconnecting path systems and possibly a ha-ha to the south. Myles Standish Hall
Myles Standish Hall is a Boston University dormitory located at 610 Beacon Street, in Kenmore Square. Originally constructed in 1925 and opened as the Myles Standish Hotel, it was deemed to be one of the finest hotels in the world. In 1949 BU acquired the building and converted it into a dormitory. In 2018, BU completed a comprehensive two-year renovation, completely rebuilding the interior of the building. In 2021, the Massachusett Tribe at Ponkapoag requested the dorm be renamed to Wituwamat Memorial Hall to honor a leading Native American figure massacred by Myles Standish. Robert A. Brown, President of Boston University, responded to this effort and stated Standish's “role in the history of the founding of Massachusetts, and thus our nation, was significant. To remove his name from the residence hall would discount his significant role in our history. Standish is an unincorporated town in Lassen County, California. It is located southwest of Litchfield, at an elevation of . It lies at the northern terminus of County Route A3 (Standish Buntingville Road) on U.S. Route 395. The name honors Miles Standish. History Standish was laid out in 1897, as the second development of the Associated Colonies of New York, whose job was to "create utopian communities in the West". As a part of this project, Standish was designed based on the beliefs of Myles Standish, and the economic structure was designed based on the ideas promoted by LDS leader Brigham Young. The design of the town was supposed to model European communities which had the majority of residents leaving the village during the day in order to work in the nearby fields.
