Alice Standish Buell
Alice Standish Buell (née Alice Standish, 1892–1960) was an American artist and printmaker. She was active in Chicago and New York City. Buell studied at Oberlin College (but did not graduate) and at the Art Students League of New York. She was married to social worker, Josiah Bradley Buell in 1917. In the 1920s she worked for the YWCA organization. She also served as a director and later vice president of the Art Students League of New York. Digby George Gerahty (3 April 1898 – 6 November 1981), who wrote under the pen-names of Robert Standish and Stephen Lister, was an English novelist and short story writer most productive during the 1940s and 1950s. He was also a featured contributor to the ''Saturday Evening Post''. His novels include ''Elephant Walk'', which was later made into a film starring Elizabeth Taylor. In the semi-autobiographical ''Marise'' (1950), Gerahty (writing as "Stephen Lister") claimed that he and two publicist colleagues had covertly "invented" the Loch Ness Monster in 1933 as part of a contract to improve business for local hotels; he repeated his claim to Henry Bauer, a researcher, in 1980. Richard Standish
Richard Standish (21 October 1621 – March 1662) was an English politician who sat in the House of Commons in 1659 and 1660. He was a colonel in the Parliamentarian army in the English Civil War. Standish was the son of Thomas Standish of Duxbury, the MP for Preston and his wife Anne Wingfield, daughter of Sir Richard Wingfield of Letheringham, Suffolk. He inherited the Manor of Duxbury and Duxbury Hall after the death of his elder brother Alexander in 1648. In 1654, he was elected Member of Parliament for Lancashire in the First Protectorate Parliament. He was re-elected MP for Lancashire in 1656 for the Second Protectorate Parliament. In 1659 he was elected MP for Preston in the Third Protectorate Parliament. He was re-elected in March 1660 for Preston in the Convention Parliament, but the election was declared void on 20 June.
