Stan Wittman
Stan "Bunny" Wittman (1 June 1901 – 14 May 1994) was an Australian rules footballer who played for Melbourne Melbourne ( ; Boonwurrung/Woiwurrung: ''Narrm'' or ''Naarm'') is the capital and most populous city of the Australian state of Victoria, and the second-most populous city in both Australia and Oceania. Its name generally refers to a met ... in the VFL during the late 1920s and early 1930s. Wittman, who came to Melbourne from Rosedale, played his football across half forward. He was a member of Melbourne's 1926 premiership and kicked three goals in the Grand Final. Two years later, Wittman kicked a career best season tally of 34 goals, helped by a six-goal haul against North Melbourne at the MCG. Wittman was made a life member of the Melbourne Football Club in 1992. He died in May 1994, the last surviving member of the team that won the 1926 premiership. 1924 VFL Season
The 1924 VFL season was the 28th season of the Victorian Football League (VFL), the highest level senior Australian rules football competition in Victoria. The season featured nine clubs, ran from 26 April until 27 September, and comprised a 16-game home-and-away season followed by a finals series featuring the top four clubs. The premiership was won by the Essendon Football Club for the sixth time and second time consecutively, after it won the round-robin finals series which was held in this season only. It is the last time a VFL/AFL premiership was not decided by a Grand Final. Australian football, also called Australian rules football or Aussie rules, or more simply football or footy, is a contact sport played between two teams of 18 players on an oval field, often a modified cricket ground. Rosedale, Victoria
Rosedale is a pastoral and agricultural town 184 kilometres east of Melbourne via the Princes Highway. It is situated on the southern side of the LaTrobe River. Once a staging post on the Port Albert to Sale and Port Albert to Walhalla coach runs, it was the administrative centre of the Shire of Rosedale which extended to the east and included the Ninety Mile Beach. It is now part of the Wellington Shire centred in Sale. At the , Rosedale had a population of 1,077. The town is in the area of Gippsland explored separately by the Scotsman, Angus McMillan, and the Polish aristocrat, Count Paul von Strzelecki, in 1840.
