Stan Williams (American Football)
Stanley Neil Williams (December 5, 1929 – September 13, 2015) was an American football player. He was a first-team All-American end at Baylor University in 1951 and played for the Dallas Texans in 1952. Williams was born in Putnam, Texas, and lived in Cisco, Texas. His father, Roy Lee Williams, was a farmer in Cisco. After attending Cisco High School, Williams enrolled at Baylor University in Waco, Texas. He played college football at the end position for the Baylor Bears football team from 1949 to 1951. He caught 65 passes for 1,029 yards and 11 touchdowns in his career at Baylor. He was selected by the Football Writers Association of America as a first-team offensive player on its 1951 College Football All-America Teams. Stanley J. "Dick" Williams (19 July 1891 – 25 May 1966) was an Australian rules football Australian football, also called Australian rules football or Aussie rules, or more simply football or footy, is a contact sport played between two teams of 18 players on an oval field, often a modified cricket ground. Points are scored by k ...er who played with St Kilda in the Victorian Football League (VFL). He was the curator of Adelaide Oval from 1939 to 1953. Williams, a half back, started his career at North Adelaide in 1910 and played with them until 1919. He joined St Kilda in 1920 and the following year, also Charlie Ricketts retired mid-season, was appointed club captain. It would be his only season as captain of St Kilda. Stanley Wilson Williams (September 14, 1936 – February 20, 2021) was an American baseball pitcher who played 14 seasons in Major League Baseball ( MLB). Nicknamed "Big Daddy" and the "Big Hurt", he stood tall and weighed during an active career spent with the Los Angeles Dodgers, New York Yankees, Cleveland Indians, Minnesota Twins, St. Louis Cardinals and Boston Red Sox between 1958 and 1972. He batted and threw right-handed and was a two-time World Series champion. After his playing days, Williams was a pitching coach for another 14 seasons for five MLB teams. He and Raymond Washington formed an alliance in 1971 that established the Crips as Los Angeles' first major African-American street gang. During the 1970s, Williams was the '' de facto'' leader of the Crips and the prominent crime boss in South Los Angeles. Williams' activities with the Crips ended in 1979 when he was arrested for the murder of four people during two robberies. Stanley Thomas Williams (25 October 1888 – 5 February 1956) was a scholar who helped to establish the study of American literature as an academic field during his teaching career at Yale University. In 1935 he was awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship. His most notable publication is a two-volume biography of Washington Irving but he is best remembered for changing the study of Herman Melville by strategically directing doctoral dissertations on his life and works. Career Williams was born in Meriden, Connecticut and studied at Yale (B.A 1911, Ph.D 1915). In 1915 he started to lecture at Yale, served as a second lieutenant in the Army Signal Corps, in 1932 became a Full Professor, from 1934 Colgate Professor, and in 1944 Sterling Professor. Stanley Williams (1925–1997) was a dancer and, later, a renowned ballet instructor. Early days Stanley Williams was born in England but grew up in Copenhagen, and was enrolled at the Royal Danish School of Ballet. His instruction was steeped in the Bournonville tradition, training with Harald Lander, although he also studied with Vera Volkova, a disciple of Agrippina Vaganova. In 1943, Williams joined the Royal Danish Ballet, becoming a principal dancer six years later, and by 1950 he had begun teaching at the Royal Danish School of Ballet in Copenhagen. In the 1950s, Stanley Williams was performing as a principal dancer with George Krista's Ballet Comique in London, where he also stood as balletmaster.
