Stan Hanson
Stanley Hanson (27 December 1915 – 24 November 1987) was an English footballer who played for Bolton Wanderers for his whole professional career. Career Starting off as an amateur with Liverpool and Southport he turned down Aston Villa to sign professional forms for Bolton in October 1935.Ponting, Ivan & Hugman, Barry; ''The Concise Post War History of Bolton Wanderers''; 1994, p.11. He did not make the goalkeepers shirt his own until the 1938–39 season and then his career was interrupted by the Second World War. He returned to top-flight football and stayed playing with Bolton until he was nearly 40. He was Bolton's keeper in the '' Matthews' Cup Final''. When he retired from football he stayed with the club as coach of the reserve side as well as running the post office near Burnden Park. Bootle
Bootle (pronounced ) is a town in the Metropolitan Borough of Sefton, Merseyside, England, which had a population of 51,394 in 2011; the wider Bootle (UK Parliament constituency), Parliamentary constituency had a population of 98,449. Historically part of Lancashire, Bootle's proximity to the Irish Sea and the industrial city of Liverpool to the south saw it grow rapidly in the 1800s, first as a dormitory town for wealthy merchants, and then as a centre of commerce and industry in its own right following the arrival of the railway and the expansion of the docks and shipping industries. Alf Hanson
Adolph Jonathan "Alf" Hanson (27 July 1912 – October 1993) was a football player for Liverpool, Chelsea, South Liverpool, Shelbourne, Ellesmere Port Town and Tranmere Rovers. Life and playing career Born Bootle, Lancashire, Hanson played for Bootle before he signed for George Patterson's Liverpool in November 1931, he didn't make his debut until 21 January 1933 in a 1st Division match at Villa Park, in wasn't the most auspicious of debut's for Hanson as Liverpool were humbled by a 5–2 scoreline, Alf scored his first goal 11 days later in his second appearance in a red shirt, the date was the 1 February and it was in a league game at Anfield, Middlesbrough were the visitors and took the spoils with a 3–1 victory. 53rd (Bolton) Field Regiment was a Royal Artillery (RA) unit of Britain's part-time Territorial Army (United Kingdom), Territorial Army (TA) during World War II. It was descended from the Bolton Artillery, first formed in the Lancashire town of Bolton in 1889. It served in the Battle of France, at the end of which its personnel were Dunkirk evacuation, evacuated from Dunkirk. It was then sent to the Middle East Command, Middle East where it joined 8th Indian Division and fought with this division in the Italian campaign (World War II), Italian Campaign. It was reformed in the postwar TA, and its successor unit continues as a battery in the present day Army Reserve (United Kingdom), Army Reserve Origin The Bolton Artillery was formed as part of the Volunteer Force in 1889.
