Competitive cross-country skiing encompasses a variety of race formats and course lengths. Rules of cross-country skiing are sanctioned by the International Ski Federation and by various national organizations. International competitions include the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships, the FIS Cross-Country World Cup, and at the Winter Olympic Games. Such races occur over homologated, groomed courses designed to support classic (in-track) and freestyle events, where the skiers may employ skate skiing. It also encompasses cross-country ski marathon events, sanctioned by the Worldloppet Ski Federation, and cross-country ski orienteering events, sanctioned by the International Orienteering Federation. Brattleboro (), originally Brattleborough, is a town in Windham County, Vermont, United States. The 1980 Winter Olympics, officially the XIII Olympic Winter Games and also known as Lake Placid 1980, were an international multi-sport event held from February 13 to 24, 1980, in Lake Placid, New York, United States. Lake Placid was elected as the host city for the 1980 Winter Games at the 75th International Olympic Committee (IOC) Session in Vienna, Austria in 1974. This marked the second time the Upstate New York village hosted the Winter Games, after 1932. The only other candidate city to bid for the 1980 games, Vancouver-Garibaldi withdrew before the final vote. Susan Dunklee
Susan Dunklee (born February 13, 1986, in Newport, Vermont) is an American biathlete. Life and career Dunklee was raised in the town of Barton, Vermont and started skiing at the age of two, first entering cross-country competitions at the age of seven. She attended St. Johnsbury Academy, in St. Johnsbury, Vermont for high school. She took up biathlon while she was a senior at Dartmouth College, where she studied ecology. While at Dartmouth, Dunklee was also a member of Dartmouth's 2007 National Championship Ski team and was active in the Dartmouth Outing Club. Prior to this she had been a double All-American in cross-country skiing. Her best World Cup finish was 2nd in a Sprint event in Presque Isle, ME in 2016. At the 2012 Biathlon World Championships in Ruhpolding, Dunklee set a new World Championship best with a fifth place in the individual event. The Chronicle (Barton, Vermont)
''The Chronicle'' is a weekly newspaper published in Barton, Vermont. Circulation was 8,500 in 1998. The paper had 260 original subscribers in 1974 and this figure grew to 7500 by the time the paper was sold to a group of employees in 2015. History ''The Chronicle'' was founded in 1974 by Chris and Ellen Braithwaite, and their partner, Edward Cowan, a Washington reporter with the ''New York Times''. The paper was started with a $500 investment by Cowan, who was a silent partner in the paper until 1977 when the Braithwaites became the only owners. The Barton Chronicle was initially published out of the Braithwaites' farmhouse, which at the time relied exclusively on wood heat and had no running water. The paper moved to rented quarters on Upper Main Street in Barton in the spring of 1974, then into a farmhouse in West Glover the Braithwaites purchased in 1975 from the paper's star columnist, Loudon Young, for $10,000.
