Stalman
Maria "Ria" Geertruida Stalman (born 11 December 1951) is a retired discus thrower and shot putter from the Netherlands. Biography She won the gold medal in the discus throw at the 1984 Summer Olympics, which earned her the Dutch Sportsman of the year, Dutch Sportswoman of the year award the same year. Between 1973 and 1983 she won medals, including 15 gold, in the discus throw and shot put at every national championships. Stalman went to Arizona State University, where she was on the track and field team. She retired shortly after the 1984 Olympics to work as a journalist and athletics commentator with ''Eurosport''. In early 2016, Stalman admitted in a TV interview that she had been using doping when she won her 1984 gold medal. The results and records remain, because the offense is too old to prosecute. The discus throw (), also known as disc throw, is a track and field event in which an athlete throws a heavy disc—called a discus—in an attempt to mark a farther distance than their competitors. It is an ancient sport, as demonstrated by the fifth-century-BC Myron statue '' Discobolus''. Although not part of the current pentathlon, it was one of the events of the ancient Greek pentathlon, which can be dated back to at least 708 BC, and it is part of the modern decathlon. History The sport of throwing the discus traces back to it being an event in the original Olympic Games of Ancient Greece. The discus as a sport was resurrected in Magdeburg, Germany, by gymnastics teacher Christian Georg Kohlrausch and his students in the 1870s. Conny Van Bentum
Cornelia "Conny" van Bentum (born 12 August 1965, in Barneveld) is a former butterfly and freestyle swimmer from the Netherlands. Swimming career Van Bentum competed in three consecutive Summer Olympics for her native country, starting in 1980. At each of those swimming tournaments she won a medal with the 4×100 m freestyle relay team: one bronze (1980), and two silvers (1984 and 1988). Bettine Vriesekoop
Hubertina Petronella Maria "Bettine" Vriesekoop (born 13 August 1961) is a former table tennis player from the Netherlands. She was European champion in 1982 and 1992 individually and in 1982 in mixed doubles. She competed at the 1988, 1992 and 1996 Olympics in singles and women doubles with the best achievement of sevenths place in both events in 1988. Vriesekoop started playing table tennis in 1972, and between 1977 and 2002 played at top level in Europe. She won the European Championship twice and was a Dutch Champion fourteen times in the singles and sixteen times in the doubles. Until 1989 she worked with coach Gerard Bakker, and then worked with Jan Vlieg. Biography Vriesekoop was the youngest of nine siblings in a farmers family.
