Stainsacre
Stainsacre is a village in the civil parish of Hawsker-cum-Stainsacre in the Scarborough district of North Yorkshire on the edge of the North York Moors National Park. The village's population in 1809 was 144. Stainsacre was the seat of Jonathan Sanders, a merchant. By 1884, W.H. Attley lived in Stainsacre Hall. Stainsacre Hall was owned by Middlesbrough Borough Council and they used it as an educational and activity centre until 2010, before it was sold due to cost and dwindling numbers attending. Hawsker railway station Hawsker was a railway station on the Scarborough & Whitby Railway. It opened on 16 July 1885, and served the villages of High Hawsker, Low Hawsker and Stainsacre. Hawsker-cum-Stainsacre is a civil parish in the Scarborough (borough), Scarborough district of North Yorkshire, England. Hawsker was a railway station on the Scarborough & Whitby Railway. It opened on 16 July 1885, and served the villages of High Hawsker, Low Hawsker and Stainsacre. Hawsker was a small intermediate stop and its ticket sales reflected this; it sold only 8,982 tickets in 1922. The Scarborough & Whitby railway was a victim of the Beeching cuts and all freight traffic to Hawsker was curtailed by 10 August 1964 and the station closed to passengers on 8 March 1965. Scarborough (borough)
The Borough of Scarborough () is a non-metropolitan district and borough of North Yorkshire, England. In addition to the town of Scarborough, it covers a large stretch of the coast of Yorkshire, including Whitby and Filey. It borders Redcar and Cleveland to the north, the Ryedale and Hambleton districts to the west and the East Riding of Yorkshire to the south. The district was formed on 1 April 1974, under the Local Government Act 1972. Jonathan Sanders (merchant)
On July 8, 2015, Jonathan Sanders, a 39-year-old Black man, died while being restrained by Stonewall, Mississippi police officer Kevin Herrington. In January 2016, a grand jury declined to indict the officer, and in March 2016, a grand jury determined Sanders choked after swallowing a bag of cocaine, and police had not used excessive force while restraining him. Incident and inquiry At the time of the incident, witnesses reported that the officer had used a racial slur during his encounter with Sanders, and that Sanders' breathing had been obstructed by officer Kevin Herrington for as much as 30 minutes. Sanders died at the scene. At his funeral on July 18, 2015, 1,000 people attended. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) was reported to have joined the investigation into Sanders' death. Middlesbrough (borough)
The Borough of Middlesbrough is a borough with unitary authority status in North Yorkshire, England, based around the town of Middlesbrough in the north of the county. It is in the Tees Valley mayoralty along with Stockton-on-Tees, Redcar and Cleveland, Hartlepool and Darlington boroughs. Nunthorpe along with Stainton and Thornton have statutory parish councils. History From the county's creation in 1889 (from the historic subdivision of Yorkshire) areas under Middlesbrough's governance remained part of North Riding of Yorkshire county for varing amounts of self-governance.
