Stage Door Cartoon
''Stage Door Cartoon'' is a 1944 ''Merrie Melodies'' cartoon directed by Friz Freleng. The short was released on December 30, 1944, and features Bugs Bunny and Elmer Fudd. Plot Elmer Fudd attempts to catch Bugs Bunny with a carrot on a fish hook, but Bugs attaches the hook to Elmer's pants and reels Elmer in. Then Elmer chases Bugs into a theater; Bugs disguises himself as a can-can dancer, but Elmer recognizes Bugs, and prevents him from exiting the stage. Bugs dances, then plays the piano where Elmer hides and gets bounced around. Bugs then tricks Elmer into high-diving into a glass of water. Elmer is then tricked into wearing a Shakesperean costume, then, prompted by Bugs, acts, then does poses and silly faces; Bugs prompts the booing audience to throw a tomato at Elmer. Friz Freleng
Isadore "Friz" Freleng (August 21, 1905May 26, 1995), credited as I. Freleng early in his career, was an American animator, cartoonist, director, producer, and composer known for his work at Warner Bros. Cartoons on the ''Looney Tunes'' and '' Merrie Melodies'' series of cartoons. In total he created more than 300 cartoons. He introduced and/or developed several of the studio's biggest stars, including Bugs Bunny, Porky Pig, Tweety, Sylvester, Yosemite Sam (to whom he was said to bear more than a passing resemblance), and Speedy Gonzales. The senior director at Warners' Termite Terrace studio, Freleng directed more cartoons than any other director in the studio (a total of 266), and is also the most honored of the Warner directors, having won five Academy Awards and three Emmy Awards. A total of 307 shorts were released during the 1940s. 1940 1941 1942 This year marks the beginning of production of color Looney Tunes. For this year and the next, most would still be in black and white. 1943 The Blue Ribbon ''Merrie Melodies'' re-release program starts this year. ''High Diving Hare'' is a 1948-produced Warner Brothers ''Looney Tunes'' theatrical cartoon short starring Bugs Bunny and Yosemite Sam. Released to theaters on April 30, 1949, the short is an expansion of a gag from ''Stage Door Cartoon'', which was also directed by Friz Freleng, and co-stars Elmer Fudd. ''High Diving Hare'' can be seen in the third act of ''The Looney Looney Looney Bugs Bunny Movie'', and a segment can be seen in the special ''Bugs Bunny's Wild World of Sports'' (the latter revealing that Sam has become a champion high diver due to his experiences in the short). ''A Day at the Zoo'' is a 1939 Warner Bros. '' Merrie Melodies'' cartoon supervised by Tex Avery. The short was produced in 1938 and released on March 11, 1939 and features an early version of Elmer Fudd. ''Hare Do'' is a 1949 Warner Bros. ''Merrie Melodies'' cartoon. The short was released on January 15, 1949, and stars Bugs Bunny and Elmer Fudd. Plot Elmer Fudd is hunting for Bugs Bunny using his "Wabbit Detector". (" Awmy surpwus. Hahahahahahahaha.") As he is searching, Bugs misleads Elmer, who walks off a cliff. Later Elmer gives chase to Bugs and Bugs hitches a ride in a car not noticing Elmer is the driver. When Bugs realizes that, Elmer stops the car at a movie theater. Bugs pays his admission to get in the theater. After some pushing his way through the occupied seats and getting a snack, he is faced with Elmer. ''Hot Cross Bunny'' is a 1948 Warner Bros. Merrie Melodies theatrical animated short. The short was released on August 21, 1948, and features Bugs Bunny. The title is a play on the nursery rhyme ''Hot Cross Buns'' as well as a punny allusion to the basic plot premise. Plot Bugs is "Experimental Rabbit #46" in the Eureka Hospital Experimental Laboratory, Paul Revere Foundation (which sports the unencouraging slogan 'Hardly a man is now alive' in punning allusion to Henry Wadsworth Longfellow's "Paul Revere's Ride"). ''Bugs Bunny Rides Again'' is a 1948 Merrie Melodies animated short directed by Friz Freleng. The short was released on June 12, 1948, and stars Bugs Bunny and Yosemite Sam. The animated short is both a Western and a parody of the genre's conventions. Voice characterizations are performed by Mel Blanc. James Francis Durante ( , ; February 10, 1893 – January 29, 1980) was an American comedian, actor, singer, vaudevillian, and pianist. His distinctive gravelly speech, Lower East Side accent, comic language-butchery, jazz-influenced songs, and prominent nose helped make him one of America's most familiar and popular personalities of the 1920s through the 1970s.
