GIEKSA Arena is a multi-purpose stadium in Bełchatów, Poland. It is currently used mostly for football (soccer), football matches and is the home stadium of GKS Bełchatów. The stadium has a capacity of 5,264 people. It was built in 1977 and renovated in 2001–2009. For 2019–20 and 2020–21 seasons, the stadium was a home for the Ekstraklasa's and Polish Cup's Raków Częstochowa games. For 2021–22 season, the stadium was a home for the I liga's Skra Częstochowa games. Bełchatów () is a city in central Poland with a population of 55,583 as of December 2021. It is located in Łódź Voivodeship, from Warsaw. The Elektrownia Bełchatów, located in Bełchatów, is the largest coal fueled power plant in Europe and one of the largest in the world. It produces 27–28 TWh of electricity per year, or 20% of the total power generation in Poland. 8,000 people work directly for the company that runs the coal mine and electricity plants. GKS Bełchatów
GKS Bełchatów is a Polish professional football club based in Bełchatów that currently plays in the IV liga. History GKS Bełchatów entered Poland's Klasa A in 1977 under the name of Węgiel Brunatny Bełchatów, and gained promotion to the III liga in the 1981–82 season. It took the club another seven years to rise to the II liga (1986/1987 season), before winning a place in the top-tier I liga in 1992. After another spell in II liga, the club again won promotion to the I liga at the end of the 2004–05 season. The club finished the 2005–06 season in 10th place, with 37 points. The following season they challenged for the league title. After spending much of the latter part of the 2006–07 season in first place, they were ultimately overtaken by Zagłębie Lubin and had to settle for second place. Skra Częstochowa is a Polish football club based in Częstochowa, Poland. The club will compete in II liga, having suffered relegation in 2023. History The club was founded in 1926. In 1946, Skra became the champion of the Częstochowa district, which was why it was promoted to the Polish championships played in the cup system. In the Round of 16, the team lost 3-5 to Tęcza Kielce. The Polish Cup in football ( pl, Puchar Polski w piłce nożnej ) is an elimination tournament for Polish football clubs, held continuously from 1950, and is the second most important national title in Polish football after the Ekstraklasa title. Due to mass participation of teams, the tournament is often called ''The Cup of the Thousand Teams'' ( pl, Puchar Tysiąca Drużyn ). Participation is open to any club registered with the Polish FA, regardless of whether it competes in any league in the national pyramid.
