Stade Germain Comarmond
Stade Germain Comarmond is a multi-use stadium in Bambous, Rivière Noire District, Mauritius. It is currently used mostly for football and athletics matches. The stadium was built in 2001 and opened in August 2003. The venue hosted the 2006 African Championships in Athletics. Bambous is a small town in Mauritius located in the Rivière Noire District. The village is administered by the Bambous Village Council under the aegis of the Rivière Noire District Council. According to the census made by Statistics Mauritius in 2011, the population was at 15,345. Mauritius National Under-17 Football Team
The Mauritius national under-17 football team is the national under-17 football team of Mauritius, controlled by the Mauritius Football Association. The Mauritius national under-17 football team is composed of the 20 best national football players, aged 17 years or less, selected from the 4 CTR's (Centre Technique Regional) spread throughout Mauritius. The main tournaments the team competes in are the COSAFA U-17 Challenge Cup, the Africa U-17 Cup of Nations, and the CJSOI games. The team has never qualified for the FIFA U-17 World Cup or the Africa U-17 Cup of Nations, but has won the CJSOI football gold medal twice, in 2008 and in 2010. The Mauritius national under-20 football team is the national under-20 football team of Mauritius, controlled by the Mauritius Football Association. The Mauritius national under-20 football team is composed of the 20 best national football players, aged 20 years or less, selected from the 4 CTR's (Centre Technique Regional) spread throughout Mauritius and from the 1st Division Senior & Junior National Teams. The main tournaments the team competes in are the COSAFA U-20 Challenge Cup, organized in November every year in South Africa, and the African Youth Championship, held every two years. It has never qualified for the FIFA U-20 World Cup. The players in the team are being prepared to join the Mauritius national football team in the coming years. 2006 African Championships In Athletics
The 15th African Championships in Athletics were held in Mauritius between August 9 and August 13, 2006. The event was staged at Stade Germain Comarmond in Bambous, Rivière Noire District. This was the second time when the African Championships in Athletics were hosted in Mauritius, the first was in 1992. Many world-class runners were competing, but in terms of the field events the standard was poor. In addition, some of those, especially the throwing events, had very few participants as African federations cannot afford to send large teams.
