St Matteus Kyrka
St. Matthew's Church ( sv, S:t Matteus kyrka) is a protected church located in the Vasastaden district of Stockholm, Sweden. Originally intended to be used as a chapel in the Adolf Fredrik Parish, it was designed by Erik Lallerstedt and built in 1901–1903, at an intersection in Vasastaden. The large hall at ground floor was first meant to be used for various charitable activities, as the chapel was located in a poor working-class neighbourhood at the time. The building is reminiscent in many ways of St Peter's Church in Norrmalm, a Methodist church also designed by Lallerstedt in 1899. Some changes were made in 1907–1908, under guidance of the original architect, when the parish was split and the chapel was turned into a parish church. Vasastan, Stockholm
Vasastaden, or colloquially Vasastan, (Swedish for "Vasa town") is a 3.00 km2 large city district in central Stockholm, Sweden, being a part of Norrmalm borough. The major parks in Vasastaden are Vasaparken and Observatorielunden near the centre and Vanadislunden and Bellevueparken in the north. History Vasastaden proper The city district, most likely named after the street Vasagatan, in its turn named after King Gustav Vasa in 1885, was still a peripheral part of the city in the early 1880s. Adolf Fredrik Church
Adolf Fredrik Church ( sv, Adolf Fredriks kyrka) is a church in central Stockholm, Sweden, named after Adolf Frederick. It was built in 1768–1774, replacing a wooden chapel from 1674, which was dedicated to Saint Olof. It was opened on 27 November 1774. Its cemetery is where René Descartes was first buried in 1650, before his remains were moved to France. Inside the church a memorial to the memory of Descartes was installed by Gustav III.
