St Kilda Baseball Club
The St Kilda Saints Baseball Club is a baseball club based in the inner Melbourne suburb of St Kilda. The club, formed in 1879, is the oldest baseball club in Australia and played a series of games against the touring Georgia Minstrels. The Club currently fields senior teams in summer in the Baseball Victoria Summer League in Division 3 and 4. In winter, the club fields senior teams in the Melbourne Winter Baseball League in B and C grades, and Junior Teams in the Little League Mariners Charter. History The St Kilda Baseball Club was formed in 1879 to play against the traveling Hick Georgia Minstrels, However once the Minstrels left Melbourne, Victoria, the club went into recess. The Club reformed in 1889 with the establishment of the Victorian Baseball League. Baseball Victoria Summer League
Baseball Victoria is the governing body of baseball within Victoria. Baseball Victoria is governed by the Australian Baseball Federation. The body has teams competing in four divisions. Early history The Victorian Baseball League (VBL) was constituted in 1890 by J.C. Williamson, Harry Rickards, Harry Musgrove, J.S. Milford and Major Ben Wardill (the longtime secretary of the Melbourne Cricket Club). J. C. Williamson was the first President and remained in office for six years. The teams in the inaugural season of the Victorian Baseball League were: Carlton, Ferguson & Mitchell, Fitzroy, Geelong, Kew, M.C.C., Melbourne (to be renamed Metropolitans), Richmond, Richmond C.C., St.Kilda, the "Age" and Victoria. Fitzroy Baseball Club
The Fitzroy Baseball Club, known as the Fitzroy Lions, is a baseball club founded in 1889 to represent the inner Melbourne suburb of Fitzroy, Victoria. The club was a founding member of the Victorian Baseball League, Victoria's first organised baseball competition. Fitzroy has won 16 Division 1 championships and currently has seven senior men's teams, one women's team and a masters team competing in the Baseball Victoria Summer League, as well as junior sides representing the club at every age level. Early history The Fitzroy Baseball Club was founded by the Fitzroy Cricket Club in 1889, the cricket club also founded the Fitzroy Football Club, Tennis Club and Bowls Club. The Melbourne Baseball Club, nicknamed the ''Demons'', is a baseball club based in the inner Melbourne suburb of Box Hill. The club is part of the MCC and is affiliated as the Baseball Section of the MCC. Having been established as the baseball section of the MCC in 1888, it is one of the oldest baseball clubs in Australia. History The club had been involved in baseball since 1857, when a group of cricket enthusiasts played a game held in the Carlton Gardens. By the 1860s S.P. Lord led several attempts to organise baseball in Melbourne, although the game never progressed beyond games in the Carlton Gardens. The 1876 Philadelphia Centennial Exhibition showed that the United States was on the road to become an economic world power and baseball could be a crucial link between the US and the new colony.
