St John Bosco College, Sydney
St John Bosco College is an independent systemic Roman Catholic co-educational secondary day school, located in Engadine, a southern suburb of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. The college was founded in 1978 under the name St John Bosco High School. History The school was built after many years of planning and effort by the Parish Priest, John Briffa SDB, and a group of parishioners. The school's principal was once always a Salesian priest, but this changed in 2010 following the departure of Fr Bernie Graham. The methods of teaching at the school are based on John Bosco's theories of education. The school was a Years 7 to 10, co-educational school under the name St John Bosco High School until 1998 when the school accepted its first Year 11 students and was renamed St John Bosco College. John Bosco
John Melchior Bosco ( it, Giovanni Melchiorre Bosco; pms, Gioann Melchior Bòsch; 16 August 181531 January 1888), popularly known as Don Bosco , was an Catholic Church in Italy, Italian Catholic priest, educator, writer and saint of the 19th century. While working in Turin, where the population suffered many of the ill-effects of industrialization and urbanization, he dedicated his life to the betterment and education of street children, juvenile delinquents, and other disadvantaged youth. He developed teaching methods based on love rather than punishment, a method that became known as the Salesian Preventive System. A follower of the spirituality and philosophy of Francis de Sales, Bosco was an ardent devotee of Mary, mother of Jesus, under the title Mary Help of Christians. Sarah Walsh (born 14 July 1998) is an Australian Paralympic amputee athlete. She represented Australia at the 2016 Rio Paralympics and 2020 Tokyo Paralympics in athletics. Personal Walsh was born on 14 July 1998 in Sydney, New South Wales. She was born with fibular hemimelia and this led to her right leg being amputated below the knee when she was 18 months old. She attended St John Bosco College, Sydney. Athletics Walsh was encouraged by a teacher to take up para-athletics at the age of nine. She then joined Helensburgh Little Athletics Club. She received her first prosthetic running blade at the age of 10 as a result of sponsorship from Otto Bock and the Appliance and Limb Centre. She is classified as a T64 athlete.
