St Georges Strand
St Georges Strand is a coastal village located in the Eastern Cape, South Africa and is ~20 kilometres north of Port Elizabeth. Geography St Georges Strand is on Algoa Bay surrounded by the Coega Industrial Development Zone (which includes the deepwater port, Port of Ngqura) in the north, Wells Estate in the west and Bluewater Bay in the south. St Georges Strand is one of Port Elizabeth's northernmost suburbs. Beach The beach at St Georges Strand is Port Elizabeth's northernmost beach. Swimming at the beach is not advised due to violent waters and waves. This is the reason why the beach is not very often frequented by locals or is known very well in the Port Elizabeth area. Eastern Cape
The Eastern Cape is one of the provinces of South Africa. Its capital is Bhisho, but its two largest cities are East London and Gqeberha. The second largest province in the country (at 168,966 km2) after Northern Cape, it was formed in 1994 out of the Xhosa homelands or bantustans of Transkei and Ciskei, together with the eastern portion of the Cape Province. The central and eastern part of the province is the traditional home of the indigenous Xhosa people. Algoa Bay
Algoa Bay is a maritime bay in the Eastern Cape, South Africa. It is located in the east coast, east of the Cape of Good Hope. Algoa Bay is bounded in the west by Cape Recife and in the east by Cape Padrone. The bay is up to deep. The harbour city of Port Elizabeth is situated adjacent to the bay, as is the Port of Ngqura deep water port facility. History The Portuguese explorer Bartolomeu Dias was the first European to reach Algoa Bay in 1488, where he planted a wooden cross on a small island now called St Croix or Santa Cruz island. Motherwell is a township in the Eastern Cape province of South Africa. It forms part of the Nelson Mandela Bay Metropolitan Municipality which is the metropolitan area comprising Port Elizabeth, Despatch, Uitenhage and other surrounding towns. East London ( xh, eMonti; af, Oos-Londen) is a city on the southeast coast of South Africa in the Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality of the Eastern Cape province. Makhanda, also known as Grahamstown, is a town of about 140,000 people in the Eastern Cape province of South Africa. It is situated about northeast of Port Elizabeth and southwest of East London. Makhanda is the largest town in the Makana Local Municipality, and the seat of the municipal council. Humansdorp
Humansdorp is a small town and surrounding district in the Eastern Cape of South Africa, with a population of around 29,000 during the South African National Census of 2011, census of 2011. It is part of the Kouga Local Municipality of the Sarah Baartman District Municipality, Sarah Baartman District. The town is the centre of the district's light industry and farming. Humansdorp was founded in 1849, and was named after Johannes Jurie Human and Matthys Gerhardus Human, who were joint founders of the Dutch Reformed Church congregation there. R335 (South Africa)
The R335 is a Regional Route in South Africa that connects Nelson Mandela Bay in the south to Somerset East to the north via Addo. Route Its southern origin is at the N2 highway off-ramp between Wells Estate and St Georges Strand near Port Elizabeth. It heads in a northwesterly direction intersecting with the R102 (to Swartkops and Port Elizabeth), M17 (to Motherwell and Ibhayi) and R334 (to Coega) and passing through Wells Estate, Markman and Motherwell. It then heads north to reach Addo. Just after passing the town, the R336 is given off to the west. From Addo onwards, the town follows the western border of the Addo Elephant National Park. The next major intersection, is with the R342 which heads east into the park. After leaving the park behind, the route reaches a staggered junction with the R400. The Port of Ngqura is a deepwater port on the east coast (Indian Ocean) of South Africa, 20 km northeast of Gqeberha. It was authorised by an act of parliament in 2002, construction started in September 2002 and the port became operational in October 2009 when the MSC ''Catania'' docked at the port. Overview The Port of Ngqura is South Africa's newest port and the deepest container port in the country.
