St Brigid's GAA (Westmeath)
St Brigid's GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association club located in Dalystown, County Westmeath, Ireland. The club is primarily concerned with the game of hurling. History St Brigid's Hurling Club was founded in 1954 but didn't affiliate to the Westmeath County Board until 1957. The club struggled in the early years, however, senior status was secured for the first time after the Westmeath JHC title was won in 1964. After winning their first Westmeath SHC title in 1968, the club won three successive titles from 1970 to 1972. A Westmeath SBHC title was won in 1979. St Brigid's regraded to the newly restructured Westmeath IHC in 1994 and went on to claim five titles over the following 20 seasons. Gaelic Athletic Association
The Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA; ga, Cumann Lúthchleas Gael ; CLG) is an Irish international amateur sporting and cultural organisation, focused primarily on promoting indigenous Gaelic games and pastimes, which include the traditional Irish sports of hurling, camogie, Gaelic football, Gaelic handball and rounders. Dalystown
Dalystown () is a village in Carrick, County Westmeath, Ireland. It is located in the south of the county on the N52 road, to the north of Tyrrellspass and Rochfortbridge. The village contains a National school, and a public house. Lough Ennell is to the north of the village. Dalystown House A two story house dating back to c1820 stands in the village. The building features a natural slate roof, rendered chimney stacks and a number of stone outbuildings. Hurling ( ga, iománaíocht, ') is an outdoor team game of ancient Gaelic Irish origin, played by men. One of Ireland's native Gaelic games, it shares a number of features with Gaelic football, such as the field and goals, the number of players and much terminology. The same game played by women is called camogie ('), which shares a common Gaelic root. The objective of the game is for players to use an ash wood stick called a hurley (in Irish a ', pronounced or ) to hit a small ball called a ' between the opponent's goalposts either over the crossbar for one point or under the crossbar into a net guarded by a goalkeeper for three points. The Westmeath County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) ( ga, Cumann Lúthchleas Gael Coiste Chontae na hIarmhí) or Westmeath GAA is one of the 32 county boards of the GAA in Ireland, and is responsible for Gaelic games in County Westmeath.
