St. Thomas High School (Pointe Claire)
St. Thomas High School (French: ''École secondaire St. Thomas'') is an English-language public high school in the municipality of Pointe-Claire, in Quebec, Canada. Founded in 1960, it was originally a Roman Catholic foundation, and it is a member of the International Baccalaureate Organization's certified Middle Years Programme. The school is the second-largest high school operated by the Lester B. Pearson School Board, after John Rennie High School, which is also located in Pointe-Claire. For the 2008 school year, St. Thomas High School ranked 1 out of all 466 schools in the province. The present population is 1,355 students and includes students from thirty-nine Elementary Schools. St. Thomas has a Code of Conduct developed collaboratively by staff, and parents, which ensures a student's right to be educated in a caring, respectful environment. Pointe-Claire
Pointe-Claire (, ) is a Quebec local municipality within the Urban agglomeration of Montreal on the Island of Montreal in Canada. It is entirely developed, and land use includes residential, light manufacturing, and retail. As of the 2021 census the population was 33,488. Toponymy The toponym refers to the peninsula, or point, where the windmill, convent, and the Saint-Joachim de Pointe-Claire Church are sited. The point extends into Lac Saint-Louis and has a clear view of its surroundings. History Pointe-Claire was first described by Nicolas Perrot in his account of 1669, and the name Pointe-Claire appeared on a map as early as 1686. Although Samuel de Champlain canoed through the area in 1613, he reported no village or dwelling visible. Joseph Cassidy (Anglican Priest)
Joseph Patrick Michael Cassidy FRSA (11 August 1954 – 28 March 2015) was a Canadian-born priest in the Church of England, theologian and academic. He was formerly a Roman Catholic priest and Jesuit. He was Principal of St Chad's College at Durham University, England and a member of the university's theology department. He was also a non-residentiary canon of Durham Cathedral. Michael Soles
Michael Soles (November 8, 1966 – July 7, 2021) was a Canadian professional football player who was a fullback in the Canadian Football League (CFL). He played college football at McGill University, where he was a two-time All-Canadian. Early life and collegiate football career Soles was born in Pointe-Claire, Quebec, on November 8, 1966. He attended St. Thomas High School in his hometown, where he played high school football. He studied history and economics at McGill University, earning a Bachelor of Arts in 1989. Brandon Reid
Brandon Reid (born March 9, 1981) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey forward, who spent parts of three seasons in the National Hockey League with the Vancouver Canucks. Until December 12, 2019, Reid served as the head coach of the Krefeld Pinguine in Germany.
