St. Luke's Medical Center (company)
St. Luke's Medical Center (SLMC) is a private non-profit health care institution based in Quezon City, Metro Manila, Philippines which operates two hospitals of the same name in Quezon City and Taguig. The first health facility of the St. Luke's Medical Center was established in Tondo, Manila in 1903 which later moved to Quezon City in 1961. The second hospital would be inaugurated in Taguig in 2010. History St. Luke's was established in October 1903 by American Episcopalian missionaries as a charity ward and dispensary hospital led by retired bishop Charles Henry Brent. St. Luke's started out as the Dispensary of St. Luke the Beloved Physician, a fully free outpatient clinic for the poor in Calle Magdalena (now Masangkay Street) in Tondo, Manila. Tondo is a district located in Manila, Philippines. It is the largest, in terms of area and population, of Manila's sixteen districts, with a census-estimated 654,220 people in 2020. Charles Henry Brent (April 9, 1862 – March 27, 1929) was the Episcopal Church (United States), Episcopal Church's first Missionary Bishop of the Philippine Islands (1902–1918); Chaplain General of the American Expeditionary Forces in World War I (1917–1918); and Bishop of the Episcopal Church's Diocese of Western New York (1918–1929).
