St. Louis City 2, often shortened to City2 (stylized as CITY2), is an American professional soccer team that is located in St. Louis, Missouri. It is the reserve team of St. Louis City SC and participates in MLS Next Pro. The team plays its home games at CityPark, home of City SC in St. Louis. History On December 6, 2021, St. Louis City SC announced the formation of a reserve team in MLS Next Pro that would begin play in the 2022 season. It was announced on January 14, 2022, that St. Louis City SC's director of coaching, John Hackworth, would serve as the interim head coach for the MLS Next Pro side. At the conclusion of the MLS Next Academy season, academy head coach Andreas Schumacher would take over as head coach of the side. CityPark
CityPark, stylized as CITYPARK, is a 22,500-seat soccer-specific stadium in St. Louis, Missouri. It is the home of St. Louis City SC, the city's Major League Soccer (MLS) franchise. The stadium is next to Union Station in the city's Downtown West neighborhood, and was completed in November 2022, ahead of the 2023 MLS season. The stadium is also the home of St. Louis City SC 2 ahead of the 2023 MLS Next Pro season. History Original proposal In February 2016, MLS began the search for a downtown site to house a soccer-specific stadium. One of the locations surveyed had previously been intended for a stadium for the St. Louis Rams before the gridiron football team moved back to Los Angeles. On February 17, an exploratory group of local businessmen calling itself "MLS2STL" formed with the goal of bringing an MLS franchise to St. Louis.
