St. Louis-San Francisco Overpass
The St. Louis-San Francisco Overpass is a pony and deck truss bridge built in 1937 located in Imboden, Lawrence County, Arkansas. It carries U.S. Route 62 and Arkansas Highway 115 over the Spring River and the former St. Louis-San Francisco Railroad ("Frisco", now BNSF) for . The bridge has three Pratt deck trusses, each in length, and three Parker pony trusses, also long, with the balance of the bridge length in steel girder truss spans. The bridge is wide. The bridge was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1990. The bridge is currently open to two-lane traffic. It has a separate pedestrian sidewalk. The Spring River is a long river which flows through the U.S. states of Missouri and Arkansas. It consists of two branches, the South Fork of the Spring River and the Spring River proper. The South Fork of the Spring River starts in Howell County, Missouri and flows south through Fulton and Sharp counties in Arkansas. The South Fork of the Spring River joins the Spring River proper near the town of Hardy, Arkansas. The South Fork is a quiet stream with gravelly bars that are ideal for camping. The Spring River proper begins where Mammoth Spring and Warm Fork of the Spring River merge at Mammoth Spring State Park in Mammoth Spring, Arkansas. Imboden, Arkansas
Imboden is a city in Lawrence County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 677 at the 2010 census. It is named after a family of settlers. History The community was first settled around 1828 and was incorporated in 1887. In 1912, Imboden elected Joe Sullivan as the youngest elected mayor in the United States of that period. He was 21 years old and paralyzed, so relied on a goat-driven cart. He left the town in 1914 to pursue further education. Imboden has two public schools. Sloan-Hendrix School was established in 1899 as Sloan-Hendrix Academy, a private school affiliated with Hendrix College in Conway. It later became a public school.
