St. John's East
St. John's East (french: St. John's-Est; formerly known as St. John's North) is a federal electoral district in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada, that has been represented in the House of Commons of Canada since 1949. It covers a part of St. John's. For a brief period in 2003 and 2004, it was known as "St. John's North". In the 2019 federal election, former NDP MP Jack Harris defeated incumbent MP Nick Whalen in a rematch of the 2015 election. Harris retired in 2021, and Liberal Joanne Thompson won the seat. Avalon Peninsula
The Avalon Peninsula (french: Péninsule d'Avalon) is a large peninsula that makes up the southeast portion of the island of Newfoundland. It is in size. The peninsula is home to 270,348 people, about 52% of Newfoundland's population, according to the 2016 Canadian Census. The peninsula is the location of St. John's, the provincial capital and largest city. It is connected to the main section of the island by the wide Isthmus of Avalon. The peninsula protrudes into the rich fishing zones near the Grand Banks. Norman Doyle
Norman "Blicky" Doyle (born November 11, 1945) is a Canadian businessman and politician in Newfoundland and Labrador. He was a member of the Senate of Canada from 2012 to 2020 and a Member of the Canadian House of Commons from 1997 to 2008. Political career Provincial politics Doyle was a member of the Newfoundland and Labrador House of Assembly from 1979 to 1993. He represented the provincial electoral district of Harbour Main sitting with the Progressive Conservative Party of Newfoundland and Labrador. The Progressive Conservative Party of Canada (PC; french: Parti progressiste-conservateur du Canada) was a centre-right federal political party in Canada that existed from 1942 to 2003. The 1993 Canadian federal election was held on October 25, 1993, to elect members to the House of Commons of the 35th Parliament of Canada. Considered to be a major political realignment, it was one of the most eventful elections in Canada's history. Two new regionalist parties emerged and the election marked the worst defeat for a governing party at the federal level. In a landslide, the Liberal Party, led by Jean Chrétien, won a majority government. Patricia "Bonnie" Hickey (born 5 March 1955) is a Canadian former politician. Hickey was a member of the House of Commons of Canada from 1993 to 1997. Kelly's Island
Kellys Island is an uninhabited island in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. With a length of approximately 2 km and a width at its widest point of 1.3 km, it is situated in southeastern Conception Bay. Tradition has it that Kelly's Island took its name from a seventeenth-century Cornish pirate who used the island as a rendezvous point. The island reported a small population in the first two (1836 and 1845) censuses. Captain Kelly is also said to have buried treasure on the island and local tradition has it that the treasure was located by unknown visitors in 1920.
