The Saint-Jean Canadiens (French: ''Les Canadiens de Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu'') were a minor league baseball team which existed between 1948 and 1955. Based in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec the club competed in the Provincial League. The franchise was founded in 1948 as the Saint-Jean Braves. Provincial League (baseball)
The Provincial League, sometimes known as the Quebec Provincial League, was a minor league baseball league based in the Canadian province of Quebec. It went through a number of incarnations during the 20th century, spending time as both an independent baseball league (1922–23, 1935–1939, 1948–49, and 1958–1971) and as a member of the National Association of Professional Baseball Leagues (1924, 1940, and 1950–1955). It is notable as a successful independent league at a time when few existed, and was a haven for black and indigenous players excluded from organized baseball. Gordon Maltzberger
Gordon Ralph Maltzberger (September 4, 1912 – December 11, 1974) was an American professional baseball player. The native of Utopia, Texas, was a right-handed relief pitcher over parts of four seasons (1943–1944 and 1946–47) with the Chicago White Sox of Major League Baseball, and led the American League in saves (14) and (12) over his first two MLB seasons. Maltzberger was listed as tall and . He spent much of his minor-league pitching career in the top-level Pacific Coast League. After brief stints with the 1932 Los Angeles Angels and 1934 Hollywood Stars, he put in seven full seasons from 1936–1942 in other, lower-classification leagues before making the White Sox in during the midst of the World War II manpower shortage. George DeTore
George Francis Detore (November 11, 1906 – February 7, 1991) was an American professional baseball player, manager, scout and coach. He appeared in 33 games in Major League Baseball as an infielder for the Cleveland Indians from 1930 to 1931 and played in the minor leagues for 17 years. After his on-field career ended, he was a longtime member of the Pittsburgh Pirates organization. A native of Utica, New York, Detore threw and batted right-handed and was listed at tall and . He attended Utica Free Academy and Colgate University, playing for the schools' baseball teams. He began his professional career in 1929 with the Decatur Commodores of the Three-I League. George Genovese
George Genovese (February 22, 1922 – November 15, 2015) was a Washington Senators baseball player who played for the team in 1950. He also played in the minor leagues for 15 seasons and managed at that level for over a decade. He was born in Staten Island, New York, United States. Playing career Genovese began his major league career on April 29, 1950, appearing as a pinch hitter for pitcher Ray Scarborough. He would walk against New York Yankees' pitcher Allie Reynolds in his first career plate appearance. In his next game, May 5, Genovese pinch hit for pitcher Mickey Harris and grounded out.
