Lutcher is a town in St. James Parish, Louisiana, United States, on the east bank of the Mississippi River. It is part of the New Orleans Metropolitan Area . The population was 3,559 at the 2010 U.S. census, and 3,127 at the 2020 population estimates program. History Lutcher was established as a sawmill town, named after Henry J. Lutcher who was a sawmill operator and businessman. Lutcher is also where James Mather and his family established a sugar plantation, and where Mather died in 1821. South Vacherie, Louisiana
South Vacherie is a census-designated place (CDP) in St. James Parish, Louisiana, United States. The population was 3,543 at the 2000 census. In French, the name defines a cattle range for grazing. Geography South Vacherie, is located at (29.936670, -90.694230). According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 15.5 square miles (40.2 km), all land. South Vacherie is known more popularly among locals as "Back Vacherie." Officially, both North Vacherie and South Vacherie are known overall as "Vacherie." North Vacherie is locally known as "Front Vacherie." The "unofficial" divider is Louisiana Highway 3127 which runs through the town from east to west. Gramercy, Louisiana
Gramercy is a town in the U.S. state of Louisiana, in St. James Parish. It is part of the New Orleans Metropolitan Area . The population was 3,613 at the time of the 2010 U.S. census and 3,188 according to the 2020 population estimates program. History Gramercy was originally an American Indian and French settlement and trading post. In 1739, much of the area which is now known as Gramercy was sold to Joseph Delille Dupart, Commissioner of Indian Nations under Jean-Baptiste Le Moyne de Bienville. The town was incorporated in November 1947. A historic sugar mill was established in Gramercy in 1895, which became the Colonial Sugar Refinery in 1902.
