St. George Forane Church Kallody, Wayanad
St. George Forane Church Kallody is situated in Mananthavady taluk of Wayanad district. It is one of the important churches and pilgrim centers in the region, in communion with the Syro-Malabar Catholic Church. History People from many parts of Travancore-Cochin region started to settle at Kallody as early as 1942 onward. The geography of the place with hills, fields, rivers, streams, fertile land and a comparably increased security from wild animals attracted people to settle here. Many of the early settlers from Travancore region belonged to Syrian Catholics and other Christians whom the natives welcomed wholeheartedly. Until 1943 Immaculate Conception Church, Mananthavady was the only spiritual refuge of the Christian community of Kallody. Not so late, parishioners from some sixteen families spent some money, bought a piece of land and started building a small construction. Kallody
Kallody is a village in the Edavaka Grama panchayath of the Wayanad district, Kerala, India. This village falls under the Mananthavady Taluk. The Hill Highway (Kerala) SH-59 passes through this village town. Kallody is home to the St. George Forane Church Kallody, Wayanad and Chowayil Bhagavathy Temple. History This land was divided into Edavaka and Edachena "desam". The house of Edachena Kunkan, one of the commanders of Pazhassi Raja, was located in this area. Kallody was mainly a place where people migrated from different parts of the central-south Kerala, especially from the area such as Kottayam, Thodupuzha, and Moovattupuzha starting from the year of 1940. Vettiyankal, Mathai was the first migrant to Kallody. He invited several other migrants to Mananthavady to the Kallody area. Syro-Malabar Catholic Archeparchy Of Tellicherry
The Syro-Malabar Catholic Archeparchy of Thalassery (anglicised - Tellicherry) is an archeparchy of the Syro-Malabar Church in communion with the See of Rome. The boundaries of the Thalassery ecclesiastical province were extended to include Mangalore, Chickmangalore, Mysore, Shimoga and Ootty as there were settlers in the neighbouring States. The diocese covers an area of 18,000 km² and a Catholic population of 273,826. Since 2022, Joseph Pamplany is the Metropolitan Archbishop. The Syro-Malabar Catholic Eparchy of Mananthavady is an Eastern Catholic eparchy in India, under the Syro-Malabar Catholic Church. It was established in 1973 by Pope Paul VI. Wayanad District
Wayanad () is a district in the north-east of Indian state Kerala with administrative headquarters at the municipality of Kalpetta. It is the only plateau in Kerala. The Wayanad Plateau forms a continuation of the Mysore Plateau, the southern portion of Deccan Plateau. It is set high in the Western Ghats with altitudes ranging from 700 to 2100 meters. Vellari Mala, a high peak situated on the trijunction of Wayanad, Malappuram, and Kozhikode districts, is the highest point in Wayanad district.
