St Fagans ( ; cy, Sain Ffagan) is a village and community in the west of the city of Cardiff, capital of Wales. It is home to the St Fagans National History Museum. Cardiff West (National Assembly For Wales Constituency)
Cardiff West () is a constituency of the Senedd. It elects one Member of the Senedd by the first past the post method of election. Also, however, it is one of eight constituencies in the South Wales Central electoral region, which elects four additional members, in addition to eight constituency members, to produce a degree of proportional representation for the region as a whole. The constituency has twice provided the First Minister of Wales, Rhodri Morgan from 2000-2009 and Mark Drakeford from 2018–Present. Boundaries The constituency was created for the first election to the Assembly, in 1999, with the name and boundaries of the Cardiff West Westminster constituency. Creigiau
Creigiau is a dormitory settlement in the north-west of Cardiff, the capital of Wales. The village currently has about 1,500 houses and a population of approximately 5,000 people. The Cardiff electoral ward is called Creigiau/St. Fagans. The village has a strong Welsh-speaking community, and along with Pentyrch has one of the largest clusters of Welsh-speakers in Cardiff. 23.4% of the village speaks Welsh. History Creigiau's former industrial centre was a quarry, which opened in the 1870s and closed in 2001. The village was linked to Cardiff and Barry by the Barry Railway's railway station, located on the eastern edge of the village, which was closed as part of the Beeching cuts. 2017 Cardiff Council Election
The 2017 Cardiff Council Election was held on 4 May 2017 as part of the national 2017 Welsh local elections. The elections were preceded by the 2012 Cardiff Council election, 2012 elections and will be followed by the 2022 Cardiff Council election, 2022 elections. Election result Labour maintained control of the authority following these elections, gaining their highest popular vote since 1995, but ending up with a reduced number of seats. The Conservatives achieved their best result since the unitary council was created in 1995, winning twenty seats and replacing the Liberal Democrats as the official opposition on the council. Plaid Cymru also secured their highest popular vote, despite standing in fewer seats than in 2012, but only won three seats. Plasdwr
Plasdwr () is the name given to a planned new suburb of approximately 7,000 homes in the north of Cardiff, Wales. Construction by lead developer Redrow Homes started in 2017. Background Plans were submitted in December 2014 for "Plasdwr" (meaning "Waterhall" in English) which was to be created on 900 acres (368 hectares) of countryside owned by the Plymouth Estates between the village of St Fagans and existing Cardiff suburbs of Fairwater, Danescourt and Radyr. An area of what is now part of Fairwater was previously known as Waterhall (and a Waterhall Road still runs between Fairwater and Danescourt). The plans included approximately 7,000 homes (with a first phase of 920) plus infrastructure including five schools, offices and shops and leisure facilities. St Mary's Church, St Fagans
The Saint Mary's Church in St Fagans is a medieval church located in Cardiff, south Wales. Built in the 12th century it underwent extensive and sympathetic restoration in 1859, undertaken by G. E. Street in 1859. The Church of St Mary was listed as a Grade II* building on 28 January 1963. History The church of St Mary's has its origins in the 12th century, with its first rector recorded in 1301. The church underwent major alterations in the 14th century and a porch and new roof were added in the 15th century. The tower was rebuilt in the 1600s and repaired and heightened in 1730. In 1859 G. E. Street began extensive restoration and added a vestry and north aisle, paid for by Baroness Windsor. St Fagans Castle ( cy, Castell Sain Ffagan) is an Elizabethan mansion in St Fagans, Cardiff, Wales, dating from the late 16th century. The house and remaining medieval fortifications are Grade I listed. The grounds of St Fagans Castle now contain St Fagans National Museum of History. History A medieval castle dating from the 13th century previously existed on the site. By 1536 it lay in ruins. By 1563 the site had been sold to a Dr John Gibbon. Ely, Cardiff
Ely ( cy, Trelái ''tref'', town + cy, Afon Elái, River Ely) is a district and community in Cardiff, Wales. It is to the north of Cowbridge Road West. Caerau defines the boundary to the south as does River Ely to the east and in part to the north. The Roman era In Roman times, Ely was the site of a Roman villa, near the old racecourse. There is also thought to have been a Roman road near the site linking to Cardiff Roman Fort and eastwards to Newport. 19th century In 1855, the first horse race took place at Ely Racecourse, which took over from the Great Heath racecourse. The Ordnance Survey map from the early 1880s shows just how isolated the ancient Ely village was from the rest of Cardiff.
