St. Andrews F.C. (Malta)
St. Andrews Football Club are a Maltese football club from the town of St. Andrew's, Pembroke, which currently plays in the Maltese Challenge League. History St. Andrews F.C was founded in 1968 as Luxol St. Andrew's. It is reputed for its highly organised football nursery, which has produced a number of talented players over the years. The senior team competes in the Maltese Premier League, after promotion from the First Division. The club is part of a multi-sports club, called Luxol Sports Club. Their former coaches include Ally Dawson, who was an ex-Rangers captain. The Luxol St. Andrews futsal team is one of the top futsal teams in Malta at the moment, and plays in Malta's top futsal division. Maltese Challenge League
The Maltese Challenge League (referred to as the BOV Challenge League for sponsorship reasons) is the second-highest division in Maltese football, behind the Maltese Premier League. The First Division was the precursor of the present Premier League until the latter was revamped for the 1980–81 season with the Maltese Challenge League instituted for the 2020–21 season following the premature end of the previous season due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Format Since the 2022–23 season, the league is made up of eighteen teams. Over the course of the season, each team plays twice against the others in the league, resulting in each team completing thirty-four games in total. Ally Dawson
Alistair John Dawson (25 February 1958 – 26 July 2021) was a Scottish professional football defender who spent most of his career at Rangers. In 2011, Dawson was inducted into Rangers' Hall of Fame. Playing career Dawson was signed as a sixteen-year-old in 1975 by manager Jock Wallace Jr. and made his debut in a pre-season tour in Canada. He was a full back who could play on either side of the pitch. He sustained a serious injury during a club tour of Canada, when he fractured his skull. He recovered, and became a centre back. He made a total of 316 appearances for Rangers, scoring eight goals.
