St. Agatha (film)
''St. Agatha'' is a 2018 American horror film directed by Darren Lynn Bousman and starring Sabrina Kern and Carolyn Hennesy. It premiered at the Overlook Film Festival on April 20, 2018. Plot In 1957, a homeless young pregnant woman named Mary runs away from her abusive father following the accidental death of her younger brother William. When her boyfriend Jimmy's band goes on tour, she chooses not to go with them and instead goes to a soup kitchen. There a nun offers her refuge in a convent where she must obey the strict rules of Mother Superior. When she attempts to leave the convent, they drug her and rename her "Agatha", locking her inside a coffin that they only open to feed her and reinforce their brainwashing. At a "donor breakfast" where the girls are judged by the convent's donors Mary escapes from the house and runs aimlessly through the woods but falls and gets her arm caught in a bear trap. Darren Lynn Bousman
Darren Lynn Bousman (; born January 11, 1979) is an American film director and screenwriter, best known for his work in horror films. He has directed four of the ''Saw'' films: ''Saw II'', ''Saw III'', ''Saw IV'', and '' Spiral''. He also directed the horror musicals ''Repo! The Genetic Opera'' and ''The Devil's Carnival'' movies. Bousman is co-creator and writer of alternate reality games ( ARG) and immersive experiences, ''The Tension Experience'' (2016), ''The Lust Experience'' (2017), ''Theatre Macabre'' (2018), ''iConfidant'' (2020), and ''One Day Die'' (2020). Personal life Bousman was born in Overland Park, Kansas, the son of Nancy and Lynn Bousman. He attended high school at Shawnee Mission North High School in Overland Park, and studied film at Full Sail University in Winter Park, Florida, graduating in 2000. Nunsploitation is a subgenre of exploitation film which had its peak in Europe in the 1970s. These films typically involve Christian nuns living in convents during the Middle Ages. Criteria The main conflict of the story is usually of a religious or sexual nature, such as religious oppression or sexual suppression due to living in celibacy. The Inquisition is another common theme. These films, although often seen as pure exploitation films, often contain criticism against religion in general and the Catholic Church in particular. Indeed, some protagonist dialogue voiced feminist consciousness and rejection of their subordinated social role. Carolyn Hennesy
Carolyn Lee Hennesy (born June 10, 1962) is an American actress, author and animal advocate. Hennesy's early work consisted of guest appearances and roles in shows and television movies, including '' Dark Justice'' and in '' Deadly Invasion: The Killer Bee Nightmare''. She rose to prominence when she was cast in a recurring role in ''Dawson's Creek''. She followed this with a series of guest appearances until she gained international acclaim after landing the role of Diane Miller on the daytime television series ''General Hospital'', for which she earned two Daytime Emmy Award nominations.
