Sri Lankan Cricket Team In Pakistan In 2008–09
The Sri Lankan cricket team was touring Pakistan in January and February 2009. The series was the first Test tour of Pakistan since South Africa visited in October 2007. The tour was arranged as a replacement for the scheduled tour of India which was cancelled by BCCI following 2008 Mumbai attacks. The tour included 3 ODIs and 2 Tests. The safety of touring cricket teams in Pakistan had long been in issue. In May 2002, New Zealand abandoned their Test series in Pakistan after a suicide bomb attack outside their hotel: they have not returned to the country since. Australia had recently refused to tour on safety grounds. In order to persuade the Sri Lankan team to visit, the Pakistan government offered to arrange "presidential-style security.", which they failed to provide, during the Second Test at Lahore, the Sri Lankan team were attacked by masked gunmen in a terror attack. Tillakaratne Mudiyanselage Dilshan ( si, තිලකරත්න මුදියන්සේලාගේ ඩිල්ෂාන්; born 14 October 1976), commonly known as TM Dilshan () is a former Sri Lankan cricketer and former captain of the Sri Lanka national cricket team. He is often regarded as the best rated Sri Lankan player in run-chases in ODI history and one of the most innovative players of all time. 2009 Attack On The Sri Lanka National Cricket Team
The 2009 attack on the Sri Lanka national cricket team occurred on 3 March 2009, when a bus carrying Sri Lankan cricketers, part of a larger convoy, was fired upon by 12 gunmen near Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, Pakistan. The cricketers were on their way to play the third day of the second Test against the Pakistani cricket team. Six members of the Sri Lanka national cricket team were wounded and six Pakistani policemen and two civilians were killed. The attack was believed to have been carried out by Lashkar-e-Jhangvi. In August 2016, three of the terrorists involved in the attack were killed during a police raid in Lahore. Danish Kaneria
Danish Parabha Shankar Kaneria ( ur, ; ), (born 16 December 1980) is a Pakistani former cricketer who played for the Pakistan national cricket team between 2000 and 2010. A right-arm leg spinner known for his well-disguised googly. Gaddafi Stadium ( ur, , translit=Qaẕẕāfī Isṭeḍiyam), previously known as Lahore Stadium is a cricket stadium in Lahore, Pakistan and the home ground of Lahore Qalandars. It is owned by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). With a capacity of 27,000, it is the fourth largest cricket stadium of Pakistan. Gaddafi Stadium was the first in Pakistan to be equipped with modern floodlights having their own standby power generators. Asad Rauf ( Punjabi, ur, ; 12 May 1956 – 14 September 2022) was a Pakistani cricket player and umpire. He was a member of the ICC Elite Umpire Panel from 2006 to 2013. Alleged to have been involved in match-fixing and spot-fixing of cricket matches, he was found guilty of corruption by the Board of Control for Cricket in India in February 2016 and banned for five years. Mohammad Nadeem Ghauri (, born 12 October 1962) is a former Pakistani cricketer who played in one Test matches and six One Day Internationals (ODI) in 1990. The National Stadium (Urdu: نیشنل سٹیڈیم), also referred to as National Bank Cricket Arena for sponsorship reasons, is a cricket stadium in Karachi, Pakistan, owned by the Pakistan Cricket Board.
