2006 Commonwealth Games
The 2006 Commonwealth Games, officially the XVIII Commonwealth Games and commonly known as Melbourne 2006 (Boonwurrung/Woiwurrung: ''Narrm 2006'' or ''Naarm 2006''), was an international multi-sport event for members of the Commonwealth held in Melbourne, Australia between 15 and 26 March 2006. It was the fourth time Australia had hosted the Commonwealth Games. It was also the largest sporting event to be staged in Melbourne, eclipsing the 1956 Summer Olympics in terms of the number of teams competing, athletes competing, and events being held. More than 4,000 athletes from 71 Commonwealth Games Associations took part in the event. Chinthana Vidanage
Chinthana Geetal Vidanage (born December 31, 1981) is a Sri Lankan weightlifter. He won a gold medal in the men's 62 kg category weightlifting; the first weightlifting gold medal for Sri Lanka in the 2006 Commonwealth Games held in Australia. In, 2011 Vidanage was banned for four years for violating anti-doping rules. He was born in Polonnaruwa. Vidanage was a student of Polonnaruwa Royal Central College. Vidanage has qualified to compete for Sri Lanka at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England. Drugs A urine sample provided by Vidanage in April 2011 at the 2011 Asian Weightlifting Championships in China was found to have metabolites of two methylhexanamine, which is banned by the World Anti-Doping Agency.
