Spur
A spur is a metal tool designed to be worn in pairs on the heels of riding boots for the purpose of directing a horse or other animal to move forward or laterally while riding. It is usually used to refine the riding aids (commands) and to back up the natural aids (the leg, seat, hands, and voice). The spur is used in many equestrian disciplines. Most equestrian organizations have rules in about spur design and use and penalties for using spurs in any manner that constitutes animal abuse. Henry Spurrier

Lonnie Spurrier
Lonnie Vernon "Lon" Spurrier (May 27, 1932 – June 23, 2015) was an American former middle-distance runner who competed in the 1956 Summer Olympics and set the world's record in the half-mile in 1955. Spurrier was born on May 27, 1932, in the rural farming community of Douglas County, Missouri. He was one of six children of John and Golda Spurrier, who migrated to the Central Valley of California during the Dust Bowl, eventually settling in the agricultural town of Delano, about a half-hour north of Bakersfield. Following in the footsteps of his two older brothers, he loved playing sports, and by the time he graduated from Delano High School in 1950 he had established himself as an all-around athlete playing varsity football as halfback, basketball (named outstanding defensive player of the year), and both baseball and track. Martha Spurrier
Martha Spurrier (born 1986) is a British barrister and human rights campaigner. She is the director of the advocacy group Liberty, succeeding Shami Chakrabarti. Early life Spurrier was educated at Godolphin and Latymer School in London, and then at Emmanuel College, Cambridge, where she graduated with a BA (Hons) in history. She took a law conversion course at City University London, and then the bar professional training course at BPP University. Career Before joining Liberty, Spurrier worked as a barrister at Doughty Street Chambers, of which she remains an associate tenant. She took up her new post at the end of May 2016. In July 2018, Spurrier was awarded the ''Hero Award'' at the 20th Annual ISPA Awards by the ISPA Council for challenging the Investigatory Powers Act in the High Court. Paul Spurrier (born 23 May 1967 Suffolk) is a British former child actor on stage, television, and film, and a screenwriter and film director. He appeared in more than thirty different roles, with credits including ''Anna Karenina'' and ''The Lost Boys'' for the BBC, '' Tales of the Unexpected'' for Anglia Television, and the feature film ''The Wild Geese'' as Richard Harris's son Emile. Simon "Si" Spurrier (born 2 May 1981) is a British comics writer and novelist, who has previously worked as a cook, a bookseller, and an art director for the BBC. Getting his start in comics with the British small press, he went on to write his own series for '' 2000 AD'', like ''Lobster Random'', '' Bec & Kawl'', ''The Simping Detective'' and '' Harry Kipling'', as well as a number of stories for the flagship character ''Judge Dredd''. Stephen Orr Spurrier (born April 20, 1945) is an American former American football, football quarterback and coach who played in the National Football League (NFL) for 10 seasons before coaching for 38 years, primarily in college. He is often referred to by his nickname, "the Head Ball Coach". Spurrier was a multi-sport all-state athlete at Science Hill High School in Johnson City, Tennessee. He attended the University of Florida, where he won the 1966 Heisman Trophy as a college football quarterback with the Florida Gators. The San Francisco 49ers picked him in the first round of the 1967 NFL draft, and he spent a decade playing professionally in the National Football League (NFL), mainly as a backup quarterback and punter (football), punter. Steven Spurrier (13 July 1878 – 11 March 1961) was a British artist known for his paintings, book and magazine illustrations, and poster designs. He was a war artist in both World Wars. Biography Spurrier was born in London and from the age of seventeen served an apprenticeship to his silversmith father. Spurrier also studied art at evening classes at Heatherley's School of Art and then at the Gilbert Garrett School. In 1900, Spurrier gave up silverwork and became a freelance magazine illustrator. His work appeared in magazines such as ''Madame'', ''Black and White'', ''The Graphic'', ''The Illustrated London News'', ''The Windsor Magazine'' and the ''Radio Times''. During the First World War, he worked with the Admiralty developing dazzle camouflage for ships.
