Sprinter (2018 Film)
''Sprinter'' is a 2018 sports drama film which revolves around an athlete going through family issues, directed by Storm Saulter. Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith were the executive producers for this production. The film premiered at the 2018 American Black Film Festival where it won awards for Best Narrative Feature, the Audience Award in the category Best Film and Best Director. Synopsis A Jamaican teen who is burdened by an unstable father and an unruly older brother hopes a meteoric rise in track-and-field can reunite him with his mother, who has lived illegally in the U.S. for over a decade. Storm Saulter
Storm Saulter (born September 21, 1983) is a Jamaican filmmaker and photographer. He wrote and directed the 2010 film ''Better Mus' Come'' and directed the 2018 film ''Sprinter''. In 2020, ''Sprinter'' was released on Netflix. Life and career Saulter was born in Negril, Jamaica, on September 21, 1983. One of his brothers, Astro, is an artist and was diagnosed with cerebral palsy when he was young. Storm attended The Los Angeles Film School and graduated in 2001 with a focus in editing and cinematography. He released his debut film ''Better Mus’ Come,'' in 2010, with a theatrical release in the U.S. in 2013. In 2018, the film ''Sprinter'' was released, which he directed and co-wrote. The film was distributed in the U.S. in 2019 and was released on Netflix in 2020. BlackStar Film Festival
The BlackStar Film Festival is a Philadelphia film festival focused on films about and by black, brown and indigenous people from around the world. It has been described as the "Black Sundance. The festival is named after Marcus Garvey's shipping line, the Black Star Line. It was founded in 2012 by Maori Karmael Holmes, initially as a one-day "microfestival" that in success became a four-day international event. Backers of the festival include the MacArthur Foundation, the Knight Foundation, HBO, CAA, Comcast, and Lionsgate.
