Springfield Township is a civil township of Kalkaska County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 1,562 at the 2020 census. Geography According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of , of which is land and (1.38%) is water. The Manistee River flows east to west through the south of the township. Long Lake is the biggest lake within the township. The village of Fife Lake lies just west of Springfield Township, in Grand Traverse County. Springfield Charter Township is a charter township of Oakland County in the U.S. state of Michigan. As of the 2010 census, the township population was 13,940. The township was named for the numerous springs in the area. Communities The Township has no incorporated villages and five unincorporated communities within: *Andersonville, first known as the "Husted Settlement" after the Hustead family who moved there in 1833, is at around the junction of Andersonville and Big Lake roads. It became known as the "Anderson Settlement" after the Anderson family purchased and settled there in 1836. A post office named "Andersonville" was established in 1895, which operated until 1912. It was a station on the Detroit and Milwaukee Railway.
