''Spring Handicap'' is a 1937 British comedy film directed by Herbert Brenon and starring Will Fyffe, Maire O'Neill and Billy Milton. Herbert Brenon
Herbert Brenon (born Alexander Herbert Reginald St. John Brenon; 13 January 1880 – 21 June 1958) was an Irish-born U.S. film director, actor and screenwriter during the era of silent films through the 1930s. Brenon was among the early filmmakers who, before the rise of corporate film production, was a genuine “auteur”, controlling virtually all creative and technical components in crafting his pictures. The quality of Brenon's artistic output rivaled that of film pioneers D. W. Griffith. Brenon was among the first directors to achieve celebrity status among moviegoers for his often spectacular cinematic inventions. Frank Pettingell
Frank Edmund George Pettingell (1 January 1891 – 17 February 1966) was an English actor. Pettingell was born in Liverpool, Lancashire, and educated at Manchester University. During the First World War he served with the King's Liverpool Regiment. He appeared in such films as the original version of ''Gaslight'' (1940), ''Kipps'' (1941 - as Old Kipps), and ''Becket'' (1964 - as the Bishop of York). His collection of printed and manuscript playscripts - mostly acquired from the son of the comedian Arthur Williams (1844–1915) - is held at the Templeman Library, University of Kent. Hugh Miller (actor)
Hugh Miller (22 May 18891 November 1976) was a British stage and film actor. He was instrumental in founding the original LondoFilm Societyin 1925, but left soon afterwards to work in America. He found success on Broadway, as Mr. Jingle in '' Pickwick'' in 1927; and in Hollywood, in the Gloria Swanson film ''The Love of Sunya'', that same year. Miller was cast as dialogue coach for '' Lawrence of Arabia'' (1962), and was mentor to actor Peter O'Toole from early in his career, and recommended Miller to Lean. Miller, who was one of several members of a David Lean film crew to be given bit parts, was hired again as dialogue coach in '' Doctor Zhivago'' (1965), his last screen effort before his death in 1976. Miller married Olga Katzin, a satirical poet who published under the name Sagittarius, in 1921; they had three children.
