Sportsnet Pacific is a Canadian regional sports specialty channel owned by Rogers Sports & Media, a subsidiary of Rogers Communications serving British Columbia and Yukon. It is one of four Sportsnet regional feeds. It is the main television channel of the Vancouver Canucks also aired on its companion channel, Sportsnet Canucks and the Toronto Blue Jays, although the latter is carried nationally. 1080i
1080i (also known as Full HD or BT.709) is a combination of frame resolution and scan type. 1080i is used in high-definition television (HDTV) and high-definition video. The number "1080" refers to the number of horizontal lines on the screen. The "i" is an abbreviation for "interlaced"; this indicates that only the even lines, then the odd lines of each frame (each image called a video field) are drawn alternately, so that only half the number of actual image frames are used to produce video. A related display resolution is 1080p, which also has 1080 lines of resolution; the "p" refers to progressive scan, which indicates that the lines of resolution for each frame are "drawn" on the screen in sequence. Garry Valk
Garry Valk (born November 27, 1967) is a Canadian broadcaster and former professional ice hockey player. After finishing his playing career, Valk became a television analyst. Playing career He was selected 108th overall in the 1987 NHL Entry Draft. Valk had a ten-year NHL career, debuting with the Vancouver Canucks in the 1990–91 season, scoring ten goals and eleven assists for twenty-one points, while recording sixty-seven penalty minutes. Valk's strongest career year came in 1993–94, when he recorded forty-five points in seventy-eight games for the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim, after being selected in the NHL's expansion draft. Arguably his best work came in the late 1990s, when he was signed as a free agent by the Toronto Maple Leafs. Dan Murphy (sportscaster)
Dan S. Murphy (born May 6, 1970 in Abbotsford, British Columbia) is a Canadian sportscaster, who currently works for Rogers Sportsnet as host of Vancouver Canucks television broadcasts and occasionally as a rinkside reporter on NHL on Sportsnet or Hockey Night in Canada broadcasts. He graduated from MEI Secondary in Abbotsford in 1988. He is Roman Catholic. After graduating from the University of Ottawa with a degree in Communications in 1992, Murphy attended BCIT’s Broadcast Journalism program where he graduated in 1995. John Garrett (ice Hockey)
John Murdoch Garrett (born June 17, 1951) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey goaltender and television sports commentator. He played in the World Hockey Association from 1973 to 1979 and then in the National Hockey League from 1979 to 1985. After retiring from playing he turned to broadcasting. Biography Garrett was born in Trenton, Ontario. Playing career Originally selected in the 1971 NHL Entry Draft by the St. Louis Blues, Garrett played one year for the Blues' Central Hockey League affiliate before joining the Portland Buckaroos of the Western Hockey League for half a season and then moving on to the Richmond Robins of the American Hockey League. John Shorthouse (born January 31, 1970) is a Canadian sports broadcaster based in Vancouver, British Columbia. He is the lead play-by-play commentator for the Vancouver Canucks on Sportsnet Pacific television. He also calls select nationally-televised games on Sportsnet and Hockey Night in Canada.
