''Sports Tonight'' was an Irish sports information television programme. Originally broadcast from 1998 until 2009 on Virgin Media One (then known as TV3), the show aired Monday-Friday at 11:30pm. ''Sports Tonight'' was presented by Trevor Welch, with other TV3 sports journalists also contributing. Times Like These (song)
"Times Like These" is a song by American rock band Foo Fighters. It is the fourth track from their fourth album '' One by One'', and was released as its second single on January 14, 2003. Composition The lyrics discuss how Dave Grohl felt "like I wasn't entirely myself" during the three-month hiatus the Foo Fighters entered following the tense and unsatisfying first recording sessions for ''One by One'', as well as his uncertainty about the future of the band. The lyric "I'm a new day rising" is a reference to the album ''New Day Rising'' by Hüsker Dü, one of Grohl's favorite groups. "Times Like These" is in D Mixolydian mode and the section that begins at 0:13 is in 7/4 time. The chorus of the song is also grouped in bars of 3 rather than the regular bars of 4. Somewhat unusually, the song intro starts in 8/4 time for 4 bars, then switches to 7/4 for 8 bars and then 6 bars of 8/4 again before leading into the first verse, which is also in 8/4. Foo Fighters
Foo Fighters are an American rock band formed in Seattle in 1994. Foo Fighters was initially formed as a one-man project by former Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl. Following the success of the eponymous debut album, Grohl (lead vocals, guitar) recruited a band consisting of Nate Mendel (bass guitar), William Goldsmith (drums), and Pat Smear (guitar). After a succession of lineup changes, including the departures of Goldsmith and Smear, the band formed its core lineup in 1999 consisting of Grohl, Mendel, Chris Shiflett (guitar), and Taylor Hawkins (drums). In 2005 Smear returned to the band and in 2017 Rami Jaffee joined the band performing the keyboards and piano. Trevor Welch
Trevor Welch is an Irish sports commentator who worked for TV3 from 1998 until 2012. He continues to covers TV3's live coverage of the UEFA Champions League and the UEFA Europa League and up to April 2012 he was the regular presenter of the sports news on TV3 News. From 1998 until 2009 he was the main presenter of nightly sports programme Sports Tonight until it was cancelled due to budget cuts. Welch also hosted sports gameshow ''A Game of Two Halves'' which broadcast for one series in 1999 and League of Ireland highlights show ''Eircom League Weekly'' from 2002 to 2007. Virgin Media One
Virgin Media One, also called Virgin One, is an Irish free-to-air television channel owned by Virgin Media Ireland (part of Liberty Global), operated through its subsidiary Virgin Media Television. The channel was known until 30 August 2018 as TV3 (and until 2006 as TV Three, launched on 20 September 1998), becoming Ireland's first commercial television channel. Aidan Cooney
Aidan Cooney is an Irish radio presenter. He was a presenter of ''Ireland AM'' on TV3 from 1999 to 2018. He has since began hosting a weekday show on Q102, called Q Breakfast from 7am to 10am. Ireland AM Cooney joined the Ireland AM team in 1999 for its first broadcast. He anchored the sports bulletins in between running in and out of the studio kitchen where he interviewed various chefs and also helped preparing the food. Cooney took part in a “Eat less, move more” three month challenge on ''Ireland AM'' designed to make him lose part his excess weight, he also underwent laboratory tests. In 2010, Cooney spoke to Paul Galvin in his first full interview since Galvin was given an eight-week ban from the CCCC. In 2018, Cooney was absent for several weeks from the show, before it was later confirmed that he had parted ways with the show. Joanne Cantwell
Joanne Cantwell (born 30 September 1979) is an Irish sports presenter. Personal life Cantwell was raised in Dublin, one of five daughters. She studied journalism at Dublin City University. Cantwell is married with two daughters and lives in Ongar, Co. Dublin. Sporting career Cantwell participated in a number of competitive sports from her early teens. She played ladies' Gaelic football for the Dublin county team, and was part of the team that won Dublin's first-ever senior Leinster Ladies Senior Football Championship. She was named Young Dublin Player of the Year in 1997 and was an All-Star nominee in 1998. Journalism career Cantwell began her journalism career while still in university, covering weekend sport on radio station FM104.
